Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aldermenof the city of Savannah in council assembled,That so much of the paragraph to be found on page7 of the pamphlet containing the present tax ordinanceof the city of Savannah as refers to personsother than a pawnbroker engaged in the business oflending money on personal property be amended byinserting after the words "personal property" thewords "whether a mortgage or bill of sale be takenor not," so that said paragraph, as amended, shallread as follows: "Persons other than a pawnbrokerengaged in the business of lending money on personalproperty, whether a mortgage or bill of sale betaken or not, three hundred and fifty dollars."Sec. 2. Be it further ordained, That all ordinancesand parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinanceare hereby repealed.Ordinance passed July 10th, 1901.

298 MAYOR'S ANNUAL REPORT.Hucksters—Regulating Licence, Etc.An ordinance to permit hucksters to sell on thestreets of Savannah upon the payment of the taxherein mentioned.Section 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aldermenof the city of Savannah in council assembled,That hereafter it shall be lawful for hucksters to sellin the streets of Savannah without regard to markethours, upon the payment in advance to the treasurerof the city of Savannah the sum of $6 for one year'slicense. Upon such payment the treasurer shall issuea badge, which shall have stamped thereon, "Huckster'sbadge No. -—, 190-," which must be worn inplain sight by the hucksters, and shall not be transferable.No badge shall be issued for less than 12months, except for the year 1901, and for the balanceof this year a badge shall be issued upon the paymentof S3 ; provided, that the requirements as to atax and badge shall not apply to hucksters sellingtheir own produce from farms or gardens owned oroperated by them; and provided further, that nohuckster shall be allowed to cry his or her merchandisebefore 8 o'clock in the morning, city time.Sec. 2. Be it further ordained, That it shall be theduty of hucksters selling upon the streets of Savannahto use only standard iron-bound measures, underpenalty, upon conviction in the police court of thecity of Savannah, to a fine not to exceed $10 and imprisonmentnot to exceed ten days, either or both inthe discretion of the court.Sec. 3.
