It has a capacity for sixhundred pupils, and in a year or two every room willbe occupied.The new Chatham Academy now nearing completionwill be ready for occupancy by October 1st.This handsome building is a great improvementover the old one, and is a credit alike to our city andthe Chatham Academy Trustees by whom it hasbeen erected. It is three stories high and containstwenty-four large class-rooms, each twenty-four bythirty-six feet, besides all necessary offices, libraryrooms, toilet rooms, etc. It is heated by steam, andlike the Thirty-Eighth Street School, every detail ofcomfort and convenience has received careful attention.Modern requirements in education demand thatthe school room be a pleasant place, where not onlythe health, comfort and physical welfare of the childis provided for, but also where the aesthetic naturemay be developed and trained in the appreciation ofneatness and beauty.The superiority of the new buildings recentlyerected by the Board over those constructed manyyears ago, marks a vast improvement in our schoolarchitecture which the public has not yet fully realized.During the last five years ten new country schoolbuildings have been erected and equipped with thebest furniture, so that the pupils of these schools nowenjoy all the comforts and conveniences of a modernschool building that are afforded by our new buildingsin the
