Thevery small falling off of the income in the year justended is really a cause for congratulation.The roof of the market has been a source of a gooddeal of annoyance during the year, but since it hasbeen painted we have not been bothered, and I hopethe repairs will prove lasting.The plumbing of the building, having been put inso many years ago, does not compare favorably withmodern work, and has cost a good deal during theyear, and will probably cost more the year to come.The Market Committee agreed with me in regardto having a modern pavement of concrete put in onthe butchers' side, as it would not only add much tothe appearance of the building, but would also facilitateits cleaning and would be of benefit for sanitaryreasons. As the estimate had to be cut out on accountof short finances, I hope that we may be ableto call on you more successfully during this or nextyear.The relations between this department and itspatrons have been very pleasant so far, and I see noreason why they should not continue the same in thefuture.The Deputy Clerk, Mr. S. A. Weil, has been veryattentive•to his duties,'both in the market and asfood inspector, and deserves all the praise you canbestow upon him.The number of inspections for the year are 4,443,and the articles condemned are as follows :
