Dog runnerunits can move over snow as if it were one category lighter, soLight Snow causes no movement penalty and Heavy Snow causesSlow Movement.GiantsRarely found among humans, giants are ancient inhabitants of the FarNorth that can crush their enemies with boulders and tree limbs. Onlythose tribes that have put special effort into befriending giants can recruitthem to their ranks, and even then they can be slow to motivate,difficult to understand, and unfeeling toward human weaknesses. A unitof giants represents twenty giants on foot armed with clubs and throwingstones. Giants are only available as veteran or elite units and musthave Endurance and Athletics of at least 4.Mammoth RidersMammoth riders are giants mounted on mammoths, making themsome of the hardest hitting units in the world. Able to charge throughinfantry with ease, these behemoths can crush lesser troops as if theywere grass. Mammoth rider units are only found among those tribeswho have strong ties to the giants, and feeding such massive beastscan take its toll on the tribe. A unit of mammoth riders is made upof ten giants and their mounts. A Mammoth Rider unit is never purchasedalone; it must always be combined with a Giants Type. Thus,the Power cost for a Mammoth Rider unit is 12 + cost of Experience(8 for Giants, 4 for Mammoth Rider). Mammoth Riders areonly available as veteran or elite units and must have Endurance andAthletics of at least 4.TerrainThe north is a cold, desolate place and its battlefields reflect this. Severalnew terrain types exist north of the Wall to represent the near constanthold that winter has on the land.FreezingUnits not equipped with winter clothing must make a Routine (6)Endurance test each day they are in Freezing terrain or become Disorganized.If the unit fails a second daily Routine (6) Endurance test,it becomes Routed. If the unit fails a third daily Routine (6) Endurancetest, it is destroyed. This status remains until the unit gains winterclothes, finds shelter from the cold, or moves to a terrain without theFreezing terrain feature. A unit damaged by cold can be rallied or organizedas normal once it enters combat, but if it suffers damage beforethis is done it acts normally for a unit in its condition.
