Franklin didnot start the <strong>Gazette</strong> but under hisownership the paper became the mostsuccessful in the colonies.The legacy of Benjamin Franklin liveson with the 1-111th Infantry tracingits lineage back to 1747 when Franklinorganized his Associators to defendPhiladelphia from the threat of Frenchprivateers.The <strong>Independence</strong> <strong>Gazette</strong> will chroniclethe activities of the 56th in Iraq as itcontinues to build on the proud legacyof the Pennsylvania militia: “Citizen inpeace, Soldier in war.”On The Cover.Photo by Sgt.
