OverviewJim Crow is a political, economic, and social system, not simply a feeling of hatred towardblack people from mean white people. White Southerners devised it in the wake of the Civil Warto win the peace, and it took from 1865-1908 to implement the system fully.The implementation of Jim Crow was a chronological pincer movement, designed to solvethe problems of Reconstruction on several fronts, from the most pressing to those designed tomake it seem to be the natural order of things.Throughout, white southerners did what they could get away with in historical context at thetime.
