SCHOOL OVERVIEWTeddington School is a very successful and heavily oversubscribed 11–16 mixedcomprehensive school, located in pleasant surroundings in Teddington, on the banks of theRiver Thames. In September 2010, we moved into a fantastic £36m new building, whichprovides an outstanding learning environment for both our students and staff. It truly is aninspiring venue in which to teach. As well as our new school building, this is also a very exciting time in the development ofTeddington School, since in September 2014, we will welcome our first sixth form cohort, following the decision by Richmond Council to open sixth forms in all of its local schools.Extensive planning and preparation for the sixth form, including the development of apurpose built sixth form centre, is well underway to ensure we deliver an outstandingeducational environment for our post-16 students, in the same way that we cater for ouryounger students.Teddington School students are proud of their school and they feel safe, happy, challengedand involved in school life. We promote high levels of personal responsibility and we supportindividuals to be capable, self-reliant and self-motivated. You will also find that relationshipsbetween staff and students are excellent. Whilst our students are hard working, creative andhave a really positive attitude to learning, they are also incredibly good fun to work with. Thesame applies for our staff and there are lots of opportunities to socialise with colleagues.Teddington also offers its students an extensive range of extra-curricular opportunities as awell as a wide variety of educational visits both in the UK and overseas, so there are lots ofopportunities for staff to fully involve themselves in the life of the school. All of these thingsmake Teddington School a great place for people to work.Teddington School’s philosophy is to encourage excellence in all aspects of school life andto measure success in terms of progress as well as achievement. We aim to create a schoolwhere students of all aptitudes can realise their full potential, socially and academically, sothat they can go on to lead happy, fulfilled lives. We have high expectations in respect ofacademic performance, behaviour and personal development and Teddington Schoolstudents live up to these expectations. The achievement of students at Teddington School is excellent and our students attain highacademic standards by making very good progress. At GCSE in 2013, 74% of studentsgained 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths; 29% gained 5 or more A* or Agrades; 48% gained A*-C in the EBACC subjects. Our students also achieve a great deal ofsuccess in sport and the creative and performing arts. The school’s specialism in Visual Artssupports this success.Within the classroom, the school has embarked upon a series of whole-school staffdevelopment activities in relation to curriculum content, teaching and learning styles, and therole of ICT within the classroom. This work has had a positive impact on expectations andoutcomes and was praised by Ofsted in our most recent inspection.

In terms of structure, the school admits 240 students each year organised into eight tutorgroups (of 30 students) and 10 teaching groups (of 24 students) and the school has beenheavily oversubscribed for many years. Historically, due to the proximity of a girls’ school(and no boys’ school), we have had a higher proportion of boys gaining places. However, this has changed significantly over time, and this year the proportions are nearly equal inYear 7, as we have become the school of choice for an increasing number of girls, as well asboys in the local area. In the sixth form we aim to admit 120 students in each year group. The staff of over 70 teachers are organised academically into Curriculum Areas andpastorally into 5 Year Groups and 4 Houses. In addition there are over 50 support staff.Development work on our organisational structure has led to a new Pastoral system withHeads of Key Stage being supported by non-teaching Pastoral Support Managers. Thisaspect of school life was also regarded as ‘Outstanding’ in our last inspection. The school became an Academy in August 2012, along with the majority of Richmondsecondary schools who converted at this time, and as a consortium of schools we arecommitted to working closely together and in maintaining strong links with our local primaryschools and Richmond upon Thames College. We are immensely proud of our school and of the enthusiasm and commitment of our staff, students, parents and Governors. We are therefore looking to appoint staff who will showthe same level of commitment and willingness to strive to the highest standards ofachievement in teaching and learning and who possess a positive approach to the needs ofall children. If you feel you have the drive, energy and ambition to be able to contribute to the futuredevelopment of our school, and particularly our sixth form, we hope you will apply for theadvertised post. For more information, please visit our website: www.teddingtonschool.org.
