Lahko jihopredelimo kot praktične <strong>in</strong> miselne sposobnosti,ki so posebej dobro razvite.UsposabljanjeBeseda »usposabljanje« je bolj protislovna, kerse včasih uporablja tako, kot da je popolnoma<strong>za</strong>menljiva z »izobraževanjem«. Vendar besedi»usposabljanje« (angl. tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g) <strong>in</strong> »izobraževanje«predstavljata različna, a sorodna pojma.Vsi bi se str<strong>in</strong>jali, če razliko prikažemo tako, davsak lahko vzgoji (angl. tra<strong>in</strong>) sadno drevo alizdresira (angl. tra<strong>in</strong>) psa, vendar bi vsi mislili, daste malo čudaški, če bi ju poskušali izobraževati.Kakšna pa je temeljna razlika med pojmoma?Zdi se mi, da če nekaj vzgajaš ali usposabljaš,potem tisto usmerjaš ali spodbujaš, da seobnaša na določen <strong>in</strong> vnaprej načrtovan nač<strong>in</strong>.Pri ljudeh obnašanje, ki ga pridobijo zusposabljanjem, postane samodejno <strong>in</strong> o njemjim ni potrebno globoko razmišljati, če sploh, dabi ga lahko izvedli. Obnašanje, ki ga pridobimoz usposabljanjem, je do velike mere predvidljivo<strong>in</strong> to je lahko zelo dragoceno v razmerah <strong>in</strong>okolišč<strong>in</strong>ah, ki sledijo določenemu rednemuvzorcu <strong>in</strong> so same po sebi zelo predvidljive. However, the twowords »tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g« and »education«, represent differentbut related th<strong>in</strong>gs. One can demonstratethe difference by po<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g out that everyonewould agree that you can tra<strong>in</strong> a fruit tree or adog, but they would th<strong>in</strong>k you were rather eccentricif you tried to educate them. But what is theessential difference between them?It seems to me that if you tra<strong>in</strong> someth<strong>in</strong>g youare mak<strong>in</strong>g it or encourag<strong>in</strong>g it to behave <strong>in</strong> aparticular and pre-planned way. With humans,the behaviour that they acquire through tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g,becomes automatic and they do not need toth<strong>in</strong>k very hard, or at all, about it <strong>in</strong> order to doit. Behaviour that is acquired through tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g isto a large extent predictable and this can be veryvaluable <strong>in</strong> situations and circumstances thatfollow a regular pattern and are themselves fairlypredictable.
