Ferrarsko ozemlje ni samo območje križanj alipovodje za pridelavo kmetijskih proizvodov, sajje bogato z naravnimi območji, zgodovino inkulturo, bogato z viri, ki so povezani s svetomURBAN PLANNING (PTCP) landscape: Unit 1The Ferrarese territory, with its thriving economyand built-up areas is geographically located inthe great territorial system of the Po Valley whichis now known as the »Megalopolis Po Valley«.The origin of the Po’s territorial system, at a distancefrom the great river and in proximity to thehigh plain, dates back to the Roman age.It is worthy of note that the Romans, in theircolonisation of the territory as they advancednorthwards, constructed their own towns nearthe rivers which, descending from the mountainsencountered the high plains of Piedmont, formerly the Apennines and latterly the Alps, butleft their colonised towns in the Delta areas. What Eugene Turri calls »Roman Territorial Imprinting«,is, in fact, the first sign of Man’s presencein the Po areas, which was to have a greatinfluence on the future development of the entirearea. The great Po region has remained intact, but over the centuries it has becomegreatly fragmented from the political point ofview, resulting in marked individual characteristicsvying with one another in the fields of culture, economy and the military set-up.The Ferrarese territory is not simply a crossingarea or river basin of agricultural products, as itis rich in naturalistic areas, history and culture;rich in resources related to the world of agriculture, the water and the great empty plain spaces. These elements are not marginal fragments, but
