In discussions on landscape it is often said thatthe landscape is a stage where we act or playout our lives. I would suggest that the landscapemight be more appropriately compared with atheatre complete with stage, players, audience, script writer and director. The landscape theatrical presentation is a largeproduction with many players and the show ison every day of the week, 365 days of the year.In the past the landscape play has often beenwithout a script and sometimes the playersmanaged to achieve a production of the highestquality, of course the pace was slow and therewas time for the players to think about whatthey were doing.Today the landscape theatrical production is attimes very lively and the players often have littletime to consider their lines or their actions andoften the landscape production is discordantand damaging. They need a well written andresearched part to play.Playwrights and script writers must research thesubject of their theatrical production and for thelandscape show, landscape character assessmentis a valuable source of research data. The players themselves need to understand thecharacteristics of their part. As they say in thetheatre they read themselves into the part andto do this effectively they also need to have accessto a landscape database such as LandscapeCharacter Assessment. In fact it is almost impossible today to producea good landscape play without having the baselinedata provided by Landscape Character Assessment.
