He grew upin Hastings, MN andwhen his parents realizedthat he had bowed legs,his mother insisted that hewas seen at <strong>Shrine</strong>rsHospital. It was at theTwin Cities hospital thatdoctors broke his legs andput him in casts tostraighten them out. Jimfeels that without the care he received at<strong>Shrine</strong>rs Hospital, he never would havebecome a U of M Gopher football player(brothers Bob and Richard also hadKay Moss and Mike Horn.outstanding football careers).Jim has spent many years of his lifedonating to <strong>Shrine</strong>rs Hospital. When hewas 5 he collected aluminum foil from gumwrappers and cigarette packages and mailedit to the hospital.Jim bravely served in the US Army for23 years. He fought in World War II and inKorea. He retired from the Army as a Majorand spent the rest of his career in bankingand home building.He currently resides in Santa Ana, CAwith his wife, Oralee.
