of Amrit Parchar elsewhere also. 13 Similarly, resolution about recruitment of<br />

Rai Sikhs was passed unanimously; through it the SGPC wished to bring it<br />

to the notice of the Punjab Government that Rai Sikhs, Mazhabi Sikhs etc.<br />

like other Sikhs should also be recruited in the police department 14<br />

Next general meeting of the SGPC took place on March 5, 1944. S.<br />

Harnam Singh presented a resolution saying that Bhai Randhir Singh had<br />

urged the meat eating Amritdharis to take Amrit afresh because taking of<br />

meet was contrary to Gurmat. He also suggested that a proper action should,<br />

therefore, be taken against him. Giani Sher Singh suggested that suitable<br />

decision should be taken only after enquiring of him why he did so. 15 The<br />

resolution was therefore forwarded to the Executive Council of the SGPC.<br />

Discussion on some other issues took place. For instance, the issue of getting<br />

four ‘Samulas’ of Satyarth Parkash confiscated in view of the communal<br />

hatred provoked by them, came up. After that discussion went on regarding<br />

issues like removing the misgivings in the public mind about gurdwara<br />

management and its Parcharaks, expanding the work of the publicity<br />

department, increasing the issuance of circulars through Gurdwara Gazette,<br />

encouraging primary education in the Sikh Panth through Gurdwara<br />

Parchar, appointing competent engineers for consultation on about gurdwara<br />

buildings, setting up a Dharmik Advisory Committee for Dharam Parchar,<br />

and making plans for the publication of religious literature. 16 After that a<br />
