US World GPA (GCC Chapter) ConferenceKOC actively takes part in proceedingsKOC has contributed two working papers to the conference recently organized bythe Gas Processors Association (GCC Chapter) in Doha, under the auspices of theQatari Minister of Energy and Industry, Dr. Mohammad Bin Saleh Al-Sadah, themed“Operational Distinction in the Natural Gas Industry.”A technical paper titled “Improvement of Sulphur Recovery from Gas Fields in theJurassic Gas Project (NK)” by Engineer Saad Dlaihy Al-Hajri was well-received.Al-Hajri attributed this success to KOC and maintained that such an achievement wouldnot have been possible without the support and encouragement of the Gas Production& Projects Group Manager Ali Al-Kandari and the Operation & Maintenance of EarlyProduction Units TL Bader Al-Qaoud.The Gas Production & Projects Group participated in the Conference with two workingpapers submitted by Engineer Saad Dlaihy Al-Hajri and Senior Engineer Amitab Singhwhose presentation was titled: “Increasing Gas Production - An Operational ApproachBased on Experience.”The US GPA is a non-profit association specializing in energy production operationsand offers its services to its members worldwide since 1921.NK Operations Team WorkshopEvaluation of Horizontal Wells Drilling PerformanceNK Operations Team recently organized, in partnership with experts from the Evaluationof <strong>Oil</strong> Reservoir Capacity <strong>Company</strong>, a workshop titled: “Evaluation of Horizontal WellDrilling Performance in North <strong>Kuwait</strong>.” The workshop was held with the participation ofDrilling Operations Teams from West and South & East <strong>Kuwait</strong>.The workshop reviewed the most interesting drilling accomplishments, their difficulties,challenges and the exchange of expertise with other teams.Fields Development Group Manager (NK) Badria Abdul Rahman and DrillingDevelopment Operations Group Manager Mohammad Al-Saeedi welcomed theattendants and commended their efforts. They also upheld the importance of teamworkand the exchange of expertise with other teams in order to obtain the best results.Reservoir Studies TL (NK) Bader Al-Saad then conducted a presentation on theimplementation of new strategies in Horizontal Drilling and the main difficulties andchallenges facing them.Meanwhile, Rawdhatain Fields Development TL Moudhi Al-Ajmi spoke about theevaluation of drilled wells in comparison to their production and shed light on the mainlessons learned.Consultant Expert Giovanni Salerno, Senior Drilling Operations Engineer Nasser Al-Barazi, Senior Engineer (WK Development Group) Om Das and Senior Engineer(S&E <strong>Kuwait</strong> Wells Development Group) Naz Gazi conducted presentations onthe implementation of Horizontal Wells using the latest available technologies, theexchange of expertise among teams, the difficulties and challenges facing them andthe recommendations to be fulfilled.5


KOC Employees <strong>Visit</strong> KU Labs<strong>Visit</strong> is part of collaborative effort with KUKOC Laboratory employees recently organized a field visit to the laboratoriesof <strong>Kuwait</strong> University in order to become acquainted with their equipment andfacilities. This activity falls within the framework of the Collaboration Agreementthat was signed between both parties in March of 2012, which in part calls forlaboratory improvement while also further developing the activities of WK labs.A group of KU students, led by Dr. Osamah Al-Omair, took part in the newKOC project for the development of Um Ghudair wells and suggested someappropriate solutions for crude flow restrictions in pipelines.<strong>Kuwait</strong> University recently forwarded some potential solutions to the UmGhudair project to the Water Handling Team, a gesture highly appreciated byOperations Manager (WK) Omar Sadeq and Water Handling Team Leader(WK) Salman Al-Qabandi.Sadeq commended the study forwarded by KU and described the includedproposals as instrumental in the future studies of the university students.Meanwhile, Al-Qabandi affirmed that expanding the participation with <strong>Kuwait</strong>University on future KOC projects will serve the interests of both parties.KOC Takes Part in Construction Engineering Conference in Cairo“Contracting For Construction Projects” Paper DeliveredKOC, represented by the Projects Management Team (NK), recently participated in the two-dayConstruction Engineering & Building Conference held in Cairo. The team from KOC presenteda working paper titled: “Contracting for Construction Projects.”The paper, its first part comprised of an introduction to Construction Contracts, the concernedparties and an explanation of the rights and obligations of each party, was delivered by EngineerAbdulrahman Mudhi Al-Shammari.Discussions focused on the required documents for such contracts, including a contract’sdrafting, plans and specifications, lists of quantities, general and special conditions, andpriorities of contracting documents in case of contradiction when implementing the conditionsof contracts.The second part of the paper dealt with explaining contracting methods in construction projects,ways and means of selecting the contractors in charge of executing projects, in addition to thesort of contracts accredited for construction and cases of cancelling tenders.Al-Shammari concluded his paper by explaining the financial warranties for constructionprojects and the relevant insurance for each and every party.Compassionate Leaves & Bail Bonds for August 2013NameMobile No.Omar Al-Zanki 99012932Abdal Aziz Al-Mutairi 990114207
