The ball-sharing activity continuesuntil the ball is “unreturnable.”Question for Underst<strong>and</strong>ing• Why is it important to get into a ready position after you hit the ball?(e.g., so I can quickly get set <strong>and</strong> turn sideways for the next hit)VARIATIONSLess Challenging• Allow students to racquet catch the ballafter their partners have hit the ball.• Allow students to self-rally the ball anumber of times before returning it.• Allow students to let the ball bouncemultiple times between returns.More Challenging• Encourage students to strike the ballwithout allowing a bounce (i.e., to volley)for some, or all, of their strikes.KEY CUES“Keep the face of the racquet movingtoward the target.”“Keep the ball in the middle of the strings.”“Use soft, gentle touches.”
