Lane Cove 12ft Sailing Skiff ClubCommunication with MembersTwo hardcopy newsletters were issued throughoutthe season, the first to coincide with the upcomingstart of the season, the second to facilitate therelease of the annual program. In addition tothese, a number of email updates were sent toMembers and supporters who had provided anemail address for distribution through the Club’swebsite.MembershipIan Meggitt and the Air HostessesBeginning last season, Yachting Australiarestructured its membership fee such that allmembers of our Club (excluding thoseparticipating in ‘Learn To Sail’ activities butincluding Life Members) were required to be afinancial member of YA at a direct cost of $35each. The fee, based on last season’smembership, was required to be paid in advance. As we had no alternative but to pass this cost toour members, clearly it caused many to re-thinktheir situation and, despite the increase in LTSparticipation, it resulted in a substantial drop inmembership. This LastSeason SeasonLife Members 14 13Senior Members 74 101Associate Members 22 84Youth Members 77 70Sub-total 187 268Learn to Sail 96 84Total 283 352Whilst many Members also donated time andmoney to the Club, there were an additional 83community minded Supporters who also did so.This year our Supporters have been individuallylisted along with Members elsewhere in thisreport.Throughout the season, many of the ClassSecretaries also regularly communicated by emailwith their fleets to provide regular updatesincluding details of race results, class specificnews, reminders of upcoming inter-club regattasand a preview of weekend racing. The Club now even has a Facebook page, whichis much “liked” by the F11 sailors:http://www.facebook.com/LC12ftSSCSkills ProgramsIn March the Club engaged John Sanderson, aqualified Boat Master, to run a course for up to 20members so that they could gain both their NSWboat license and Power Boat Handling Certificatefrom Yachting Australia. This course complemented the RSA course thatwas held earlier in the year and this along with thePower Boat Handling Course will ensure that theClub has properly trained Members to ensure thesafe and effective running of our operations.Social ProgramsLane Cove has always prided itself on enjoying anactive and healthy social program to complementthe Club’s Sailing activities. The 2011-12 seasonproved no different with a varied number ofactivities taking place, targeted at many differentClub members.Despite the above concerns, the continued strongnumbers in the Club’s Junior Programmesremains one of our greatest strengths, providing astrong foundation for the future.Ian Meggitt - Treasurerwww.LC12ftSSC.org.au Page 4
