<strong>Lane</strong> <strong>Cove</strong> <strong>12ft</strong> <strong>Sailing</strong> <strong>Skiff</strong> <strong>Club</strong>James Glassock joining Charlie Gundy were eightin the Silver Fleet.Charlie Gundy and Dana Tavener in Nothing to Lose.Lose, Henry Larkings joined Tilly Lang inDynamite. Making a return to Flying 11s for theNationals was Cam Gundy along with anotherrecruit from the Sabots, Finn Gilbert.After six races the fleet was split into Gold andSilver fleets. We had 5 boats in each fleet. KurtHansen and Lindsay Pike in Oscar from Belmontare the 2012 National Flying 11 Champions. Bestof <strong>Lane</strong> <strong>Cove</strong> were Fire Ice - Cam Gundy andFinn Gilbert in 18th in the Gold Fleet and Snap! -Jeremy Jones and Devlin Walsh, one better at17th in the Silver Fleet.The off water activities were centered around theSoldiers Point Holiday Park with communal mealseach night, a mobile workshop carrying mast andhull repairs for both our own and other clubsboats. The parents managed to have a dinner outat the Marina adjacent to the Holiday Park,without the kids! Sunset drinks on the patio of theHarrision’s apartment was a highlight, withuninterrupted views over the race track and out tothe mouth of Port Stephens with a view to theBroughton Island – thanks Peter and Janelle.February was the second round States down atCronulla, rigging was tight on their deck and thenit was a long sail down past the sandbank and aturn left to get out to the race area and the rollingswells of Bate Bay. The fleet joined (gate crashed)a wedding on Jibbon Beach at Bundeena whenthe PRO Col Chidgey sent the fleet ashore to waitfor the wind to settle in. Jack Buchan and EmmaJones in Hammertime from Belmont continuedtheir dominant display from Round One, taking outthe State Titles by four points from Manly boatMWB with National Champ Oscar third. Decoy in14th and Bullet in 19th were best placed of ourboats in the Gold Fleet. Nothing to Lose withOn the <strong>Club</strong> front the racing was very closeacross the fleet. In the <strong>Club</strong> Championship EmmaMay and Ally Lust in Splash as defending <strong>Club</strong>Champions started with a win with Decoy andRiddles close behind, the result was in thebalance until the final race when Gretta and Tomhad a win to become the <strong>2011</strong>-12 Flying 11 <strong>Club</strong>Champions, Gretta and Tom also took out theFastest Time Pointscore from Tilly Lang andSophie Afaras in Dynamite with Emma May andAlly Lusty in Splash third. The HandicapPointscore also came down to the last race. With30 points for a win any one of four boats was inwith a chance. Dynamite was on 230 points,Splash 217 points with Bullet and SevenMinutes to Midnight tied one point behind on216points. Places were exchanged as the crewssailed the course, coming into the river SevenMinutes to Midnight opened a break from thepack and finished third on Scratch and first onHandicap to give her a total of 246 just edging outDynamite on 242 points. So Cartiona Glassockand Tom Larkings (with the help of Gael Glassockfor one race) are the <strong>2011</strong> -12 Flying 11 HandicapPointscore winners.Tight start in the F11 Upper Harbour Series Race held at HuntersHill.With the <strong>Club</strong> Racing over the Flying 11 fleet inmost part left their boats behind and begged,borrowed (but I don’t think stole) Cherubs for theannual Combined High School <strong>Sailing</strong>Championship. As a shake down two crews,Gretta Quealy and Charlie Gundy, in Ajax andBilly Lusty and Jeremy Jones in PineappleExpress sailed the Cherubs in the <strong>12ft</strong> <strong>Skiff</strong>Nationals held at Woollarah over Easter.www.LC<strong>12ft</strong>SSC.org.au Page 17
