<strong>Ward</strong> <strong>Report</strong> - <strong>West</strong> <strong>Gosforth</strong>This section highlights the 2012/13 scheme delivery within the ward and the proposed three yearprogramme of works for 2013 to 2016. The key for the works schedule is shown below:-Schemes to be completed during 2012/13Programmed schemes for 2013/14Suggested priority schemes for 2013/16The following ward programme contains a brief case study/studies relating to a project fromfinancial year 2012/13. The case study describes the background to the project, the nature of theworks and gives some detail of the programme and cost.Schemes shown in green have been agreed with Members and are programmed for 2013/14.Schemes shown in yellow are priority schemes for 2013/14 and up to 2016, based upon condition.Members will be consulted on Planned Highway Maintenance once individual ward budgets havebeen agreed. Once schemes are agreed they will become part of the programme and colouredgreen.The programme listed will form the basis of the quarterly <strong>Ward</strong> <strong>Report</strong> that is sent out to Members.

<strong>West</strong> <strong>Gosforth</strong> <strong>Ward</strong> Case StudyCommissionerTechnical ServicesGraham Park RoadProject TeamDesign: Planned HighwayMaintenance and HighwayNetwork & TrafficManagementConstruction: Highways &Traffic SignalsProgrammeStart on Site: March 2012Duration: 8 weeksProject Value£85,000FundingPrudential BorrowingProject descriptionGraham Park Road is a treelined residential street situatedbetween The High Street,<strong>Gosforth</strong> and <strong>West</strong>field Drive.The flagged pavements wereuneven and in some cases theroots of the trees, which aresituated within the flaggedarea, were contributing to theproblem.The flagged pavements werelifted and re-laid to provide alevel surface for pedestrians.Uneven areas around treeswere eliminated and additionalkerbs were laid acrossdriveways to give a continuouskerb line on each side of thestreet.In accordance with the<strong>Council</strong>s Tree Strategy anassessment of the existingtrees was carried out, whichidentified 6 trees which werestressed, diseased ordamagedThese trees were removed andwhere possible replaced withtrees more suited to a streetenvironment.Before work started allresidents were informed of theproposals by letter togetherwith a plan showing the treeremoval and replacementlocations. Concerns receivedfrom the residents before andduring the works weresuccessfully addressed.Successful completion of theworks has increased publicsafety and has improved theappearance of the street.
