Director’s NoteSelecting a play to kick off Iowa Central’s performing arts season was among my greatest challenges—mainly becauseof the size and caliber of student talent returning to campus. We have so many veteran performers and so much depthof new talent this year that finding the show to feature that diversity was my goal.My vision for this comedy was to make it feel like the old-fashioned melodramas of times gone by. I grew up going tovaudeville shows in tent theatres with troupes that traveled all over the Midwest. So, for tonight’s performance, weare going to re-create that feel—our show will actually begin before the curtain even opens. We will have good guysand evil villains, roving musicians and dancing/singing saloon girls. We will have Sidekick characters and Indianswho lead the audience participation—yes, this show will actually involve you—no audition necessary—just a goodsense of humor and a willingness to “try out the stage” from the safety of your seat. (Be prepared for an acting lessonprior to curtain...and, yes, there might be notes at intermission.)So welcome to Iowa Central’s version of a vaudeville tent theatre featuring a show set out west in the 1890’s withcostumes and vaudeville gags that will make you laugh, cheer and boo. Thanks for coming—and be sure to return ina few weeks for our Spotlight on the Stars production which features our music and dance programs.~ Teresa Jackson
