3 The StormWhile I was <strong>in</strong> Chesterfield <strong>in</strong> Derbyshire, an evangelist bro<strong>the</strong>r<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Assemblies of God asked me if I would run him over to seehis friend, Mrs. Fentiman, <strong>the</strong> headmistress of a board<strong>in</strong>g school<strong>in</strong> Nott<strong>in</strong>ghamshire who had taken <strong>in</strong> missionaries’ children fromAfrica, Ceylon and Ch<strong>in</strong>a.Mrs. FentimanMrs. Fentiman, a Christian s<strong>in</strong>ce her youth, had married a submar<strong>in</strong>ecommander <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> first war, and <strong>the</strong>y settled <strong>in</strong> Preston. Herhusband wasn’t saved, and she soon lost <strong>the</strong> presence of God.One day she got down on her knees and cried, “Oh God, whateverhas come between you and me, move it.”With<strong>in</strong> a week, <strong>the</strong> admiralty dropped a letter through her letterbox <strong>in</strong>form<strong>in</strong>g her that her husband’s submar<strong>in</strong>e with all handshad gone down. She was now a widow with two little childrenand had to f<strong>in</strong>d some means of earn<strong>in</strong>g a liv<strong>in</strong>g. The district educationcommittee found her a position as a schoolteacher <strong>in</strong>Nott<strong>in</strong>ghamshire, so she left Preston. When she arrived, she stooddesolate on <strong>the</strong> railway platform, not know<strong>in</strong>g a liv<strong>in</strong>g soul <strong>the</strong>re.Never <strong>in</strong> her life had she felt so low.On Sundays, she would teach her two little daughters about Jesus,and soon ano<strong>the</strong>r little girl regularly jo<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>the</strong>m. This little girl,who is still liv<strong>in</strong>g today, received Jesus as her Saviour. She <strong>the</strong>nbrought her granny <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> Sunday afternoon meet<strong>in</strong>g andGranny got saved, and after that, her mommy.31
