Us<strong>in</strong>g demolition equipment, Ted knocked down<strong>the</strong> walls of our 90-year-old conservatory and we began <strong>the</strong> taskof build<strong>in</strong>g a new one. Then we received a compla<strong>in</strong>t from ourneighbors that we were six <strong>in</strong>ches over <strong>the</strong> l<strong>in</strong>e onto <strong>the</strong>ir property.Even though we were rebuild<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> conservatory walls exactlywhere <strong>the</strong>y had stood before, <strong>the</strong> neighbors <strong>in</strong>formed me thatlegal action would be taken aga<strong>in</strong>st me if I didn’t remove ournew wall with<strong>in</strong> a week. A man from <strong>the</strong> council authorities saidif I had only left a bit of <strong>the</strong> old wall, <strong>the</strong>y would have consideredthis a repair. But s<strong>in</strong>ce I had removed all of <strong>the</strong> old wall, Iwould have to comply. God was us<strong>in</strong>g this situation to move meout of my ease and to get me to re-exam<strong>in</strong>e my assumptionsabout build<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> house of God.About this time, I went to Bro<strong>the</strong>r Peter Appleton’s for a fewmeet<strong>in</strong>gs and afterwards, he offered to run me to a tra<strong>in</strong>. Thewea<strong>the</strong>r was so beautiful, though, I walked to <strong>the</strong> motorway topick up a lift, arriv<strong>in</strong>g at <strong>the</strong> roundabout at 7:00 <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> morn<strong>in</strong>g.“Do you want a lift?”“Lord,” I <strong>in</strong>quired. “Do I go south or north?”A man swept around <strong>the</strong> corner and stopped his car, even thoughI hadn’t <strong>in</strong>dicated I needed a lift. “I am go<strong>in</strong>g north to Preston,”he said. “Do you want a lift?”“Yes,” I answered and got <strong>in</strong>to his car. He dropped me at <strong>the</strong>North Wales term<strong>in</strong>al.
