piano to a dead cat — or if, perchance you fall out with a hotheadedIrishman, you yourself might go into it!As I strolled across among the crowds of people walking on thebridge, I saw a man energetically preaching to a group of people, which included some students seated on the parapet of the bridge.Out of curiosity, I stopped to listen as I finished my ice cream. The students were taunting the man, a Jehovah’s Witness, andhe was determined to get the better of them. He was trying toprove his point, but they were just using him for entertainment. They had challenged him on an issue and the man bent over, delving into a case of books he had with him to give them ananswer.I began to move on away from that scene when God spoke tome: “Go back and sing.”I said, “Oh no, Lord….” For one thing, I’m not a singer, and foranother thing, I didn’t know what I should sing. Although, becausemy peace was ruffled, I knew I was disobeying God bycontinuing to walk away. So I submitted and went back somewhatfearfully to the crowd around the Jehovah’s Witness whowas now heatedly arguing with the students.Presenting myself in obedience to the Lord, I stood there waiting. One of the students shouted, “How do you know?”The Spirit suddenly prompted me. I opened my mouth and sang:“You ask me how I know He lives; He lives within my heart.”It wasn’t the music, but the words that the Spirit anointed. Helives within my heart. That was all God gave me. Abruptly, Iturned and left the crowd, while behind me, I heard someonesay, “Nobody can argue with that. That’s the answer.”The Boat to RosslareAt a time in my life when I was too poor to own a vehicle of myown, I would often hitchhike hundreds of miles from place toplace. I could never be certain I would get to the terminal ontime to catch a particular bus, plane or train. Ministry along theway often complicated my schedule, as happened on one occasionwhen I was journeying to southern Ireland.169
