went to Florida and spent some time with Noel and VivianTimmerman who had just returned from Jamaica. Grace Mundseycontacted me while I was with <strong>the</strong>m and asked me to come overto Jamaica. It was to be <strong>the</strong> first of many visits I would make to<strong>the</strong> Flower Hill Center at Montego Bay.The woman at <strong>the</strong> orphanage <strong>in</strong> JamaicaOn one of my trips to Jamaica, Noel, Oscar Collie and I took aVolkswagen to Maroon Town to pick up some chairs for <strong>the</strong> mission.We rocked and bounced up <strong>the</strong> mounta<strong>in</strong> and collected <strong>the</strong>chairs. On <strong>the</strong> return trip, we stopped off on <strong>the</strong> Caribbean coastat an orphanage that an American lady ran.Bright-eyed black boys and girls greeted us, <strong>the</strong>se sweet little orphans,who were be<strong>in</strong>g cared for by a t<strong>in</strong>y white woman. As wevisited, God spoke to me: “You m<strong>in</strong>ister to this woman.”I knew what He meant. He didn’t want me to m<strong>in</strong>ister from mymouth but from my pocket. I didn’t want to m<strong>in</strong>ister from mypocket. I had come over to <strong>the</strong> United States on a s<strong>in</strong>gle ticketand didn’t have my return fare back to England. The only way Iwas <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> dollars flow<strong>in</strong>g was towards me, not away fromme. So, very generously, I thought, “Lord, I will give her $10.”“No you won’t,” He replied.“Ouch!” I said, watch<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> mercury <strong>in</strong> my <strong>the</strong>rmometer. Mypeace began to go down and I knew <strong>the</strong> price for my peace was$40. So I said, “All right, Lord. Amen. Forty dollars it shall be.”I excused myself to go to <strong>the</strong> bathroom, where I counted out <strong>the</strong>dollars <strong>in</strong>to a bundle. Then I returned to <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs and lookedfor an opportunity to slip <strong>the</strong> money <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> sister’s hand, but<strong>the</strong>re was no opportunity. We got right to <strong>the</strong> threshold andwere say<strong>in</strong>g our “Good-byes” when I realized I would have to doit <strong>in</strong> front of everybody. Of course, what <strong>the</strong> Lord has told us todo <strong>in</strong> secret, He doesn’t always allow to rema<strong>in</strong> a secret.I thought, “Well, here it goes.” I put my hand <strong>in</strong>to my pocket,pulled out <strong>the</strong> roll of $40, and stretched my hand out to <strong>the</strong>sister. To my astonishment, as I did this, Noel did this, and Oscardid this — as if we were three marionettes all be<strong>in</strong>g pulled by <strong>the</strong>162
