I was m<strong>in</strong>ister<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Portsmouth and expected <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> morn<strong>in</strong>g…<strong>the</strong> Lord might want me to go to Chard. When I woke up, Hesurprised me by say<strong>in</strong>g, “Go to Toronto.”“I beg your pardon, Lord,” I said, “What did you say?”“Go to Toronto.”I had never been to Canada and only knew one lady <strong>the</strong>re whohad stopped with us at Paddock Wood, casually leav<strong>in</strong>g her address.I returned home and told Marj, “I’m go<strong>in</strong>g to Toronto.”“You’ve never been <strong>the</strong>re,” she remarked.“No, but I am go<strong>in</strong>g.”When I arrived <strong>in</strong> Toronto airport, I had only <strong>the</strong> one telephonenumber to call. I rang <strong>the</strong> number aga<strong>in</strong>, and aga<strong>in</strong>, and aga<strong>in</strong>,but <strong>the</strong>re was no response. I didn’t know anyone else <strong>in</strong> thatcountry, and I didn’t know what to do — so, I did noth<strong>in</strong>g. Itwas 11:00 at night when I put my feet up <strong>in</strong> a seat at <strong>the</strong> airportas <strong>the</strong> charladies came around, sweep<strong>in</strong>g and wash<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> floors.At 7:00 <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g morn<strong>in</strong>g, I prayed, “Well, Lord. Here I am<strong>in</strong> Toronto. Where do I go from here? What will I do?” I rang <strong>the</strong>number aga<strong>in</strong>, and <strong>the</strong>re was still no response.The Lord said, “Buy a map.”So, I went to <strong>the</strong> newsagent and bought a map. I spread it out on<strong>the</strong> seats and began to study it. “Well, isn’t that surpris<strong>in</strong>g,” Ithought. “I didn’t know <strong>the</strong>re are some parts of <strong>the</strong> United Stateswhich are north of some parts of Canada.” Detroit was one ofthose places. As I noticed that, I thought, “Oh yes, Jean and JimRichie, Broomfield Hills, Detroit. Why, yes. I’ll give <strong>the</strong>m a r<strong>in</strong>g.”“Oh Bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>Arthur</strong>,” said <strong>the</strong> excited voice. “Where are you? In<strong>the</strong> United States?”“No,” I replied, “Not <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> States, but <strong>in</strong> a little bit of a state. I’m<strong>in</strong> Toronto, and I don’t have any o<strong>the</strong>r contact here but this onefriend who is not <strong>in</strong>.”The Richies rescued me and God opened up doors of m<strong>in</strong>istry forme while I was with <strong>the</strong>m. I learned later that my friend <strong>in</strong> Torontohad been called away from home on an emergency. After that, I161
