I came to understand I feed my faith with the Word of God, butI feed unbelief with sense knowledge — what I see, what I hear— all my senses. If I wanted unbelief to die, I must starve it todeath. So I said, “Lord, I will not look at that leg again, not evenwhen I am in the bath.”I feebly prepared to go out to minister. Marj objected, “What areyou doing?”As you minister to others, you incidentallyget ministered to yourself.“I’m going to do what I believe is the will of God,” I told her.“You’re not leaving the house!” she argued. “You are so weak, you can hardly crawl around the house, never mind leaving.”“I am going.” It was November, dull and dark. There were littleflickering snowflakes coming down as I got dressed and packed asmall case; I was too weak to carry a big one. I left the house andwalked unsteadily to the end of the road. I had left Marj withhalf a crown and some groceries a few church members broughtus, and I had only two shillings and six pence with me.I stood at the roadside for no more than three minutes, when Isaw a car coming up the road. I signaled and the car pulled up.Before I could thank the driver for stopping, he said, “I’m goingto London and you are welcome if you want a lift.”I thanked him, got into his beautiful car, and we soon arrived inLondon. For a day or two, I ministered to some people I knew atReading and experienced a gain in strength. I learned a divineprinciple: as you minister to others, you incidentally get ministeredto yourself.I hitchhiked up to Hockley, Birmingham, and stayed with SisterReeve and Sister Fisher who ministered to me financially. Theyalso built me up physically, seeing to my needs for proper nourishmentand rest. When I left there, I preached in Northumberlandand in Northern Ireland where God met me and provided moneyfor me to send home for the family’s needs. I was feeling strongerwith each passing day.142
