“I know what he’ll do,” I thought. “When we go in the frontdoor, he will try to slip out the back.” So, I went behind thehouse and waited under a tree in the moonlight. Sure enough, Iheard his footsteps coming toward me in the dark. When he gotnear, I reached out, put my arms around him, and said, “Hallelujah!”He cried out fearfully, “Leave me alone! I must go!”By this time, all the people had followed him outside and surroundedhim, prevailing upon him with so much love and excitement, they persuaded him to stay. We all returned to the houseand sat at the table where we had refreshments. He was very mysterious, whispering dramatically, “Listen, I haveenemies. If they knew I was here, they would kill me. It is nogood talking to me. I am a lost soul.”We tried in every way to get him to open up and to explain tous, but he just said, “You don’t understand. I have gone so farfrom God, that now God would never recognize me. I can’t tellyou what’s happened in my life, and if they knew I was here, they’d kill me.”I reached into my back pocket, pulled out my New Testament, and opened it to the Book of Acts. I began to read the storyabout the people of Ephesus who worshipped the goddess Diana:“The people began to shout, ‘How great is Diana of the Ephesians’for the space of two hours. These men, who were silversmiths, got together and said, ‘We have to do something aboutthis, our craft is in danger.’”When I read the word “craft,” Robert gripped the table. His eyesstared, his face turned white, and he began to tremble. I realizedthe Spirit of God was striving with him. Then he confessed. Hewas a high priest of witchcraft in Manchester. From that time on, I began to follow Robert, unwilling to let himgo on serving the enemy. I went to his home again and again, but his wife was cold to me and wouldn’t let me in. So I wouldsit on a case at the end of the street and wait for him to comehome from work. Each time I saw Robert, I’d tell him, “God isgoing to bring you out of this.”128
