The Champion • Wednesday 18 December 2013The presentation of the potentially life saving defibrillator at Crossens Bowling Club.Life saving defib forbowling club in memoryof big band drummer RegReport by Ollie CowanA LIFE saving defibrillator has been placed atCrossens Bowling Club by Southport charityHeart4Heart who, in memory of big banddrummer Reg Howard, are fundraising toplace potentially lifesaving defibrillatorsacross the town.The defibrillator was purchased following aseries of fundraising events.Reg, a well known member of the Southportcommunity, lost his life following a cardiacarrest which he suffered at home in August2012.His family and friends, determined to keep hismemory alive, developed the Heart4Heartcampaign.They originally began fundraising to providea defibrillator at Fleetwood Hesketh Club, butthe response from the community has been sogreat that they have now progressed –resulting in four defibrillators being purchasedfor the resort.Training on CPR and how to use thedefibrillator was also held by North WestAmbulance Service for members of CrossensBowling ClubIt is proven that intervention during the firstfew minutes of cardiac arrest is vital, and nowtrained members of the community will be onhand to give immediate help to anyone whosuffers a cardiac arrest.
