THE J.G. FARRELLFICTION AWARDThe J.G. Farrell Fiction Award <strong>–</strong> for the best opening chapterof a novel-in-progress by a writer resident in Munster <strong>–</strong> willthis year be adjudicated by novelist Richard Skinner. Theprize includes a place on Richard’s fiction workshop andaccommodation at the Maritime Hotel. Applicants should sendtwo copies of the first chapter of their novel (max 3000 words),double-spaced and printed on one side of the page only. Placeyour name and address on a separate sheet. Entries will not bereturned. Farrell was born in Liverpool and died at the age of 44,when he was swept into the sea while fishing from rocks nearKilcrohane, <strong>West</strong> <strong>Cork</strong>. His book Troubles won the Faber Prizein 1971, and in 2010 it won the Lost Man Booker Prize. TheSiege of Krishnapur, Farrell’s novel about the Indian Mutiny of1957, carried off the Booker in 1973.
