She is known for her lyrical, powerful writing and theprofound emotional honesty of her work. She is the author of Seeds of Another Summer; Home:Chronicle of a North Country Life; Shadow Child: An Apprenticeship in Love and Loss; EdgeSeasons and The Hatbox Letters, which was long-listed for the International IMPAC Award.Beth has recently won the Lieutenant-Governor’s Award for High Achievement in English-Language Literary Arts. The Sea Captain's Wife was short-listed for the Thomas Head RaddallAtlantic Fiction Award, in Canada; and was a Barnes and Noble Discover Award Book in theUSA. This talk will take a fun look at thetechnique and practice of creating and structuring a full-length work of fiction.Louise Doughty is the author of six novels, most recently Whatever You Love, which wasshort-listed for the Costa Novel Award and long-listed for the Orange Prize for Fiction. Shehas won awards for radio drama and short stories, along with publishing one work of nonfiction,A Novel in a Year, based on her hugely popular newspaper column. She is a critic andcultural commentator for UK and international newspapers and broadcasts regularly for theBBC. She lives in London.20
