Bradley PolytechnicInstitute.The Peoria Journal, <strong>the</strong> Peoria Transcript, and <strong>the</strong> SundayJournal-Transcript are pioneers in <strong>the</strong> <strong>newspaper</strong> field in Peoriaand Central <strong>Illinois</strong>. The final consolidation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> papers waseffected in 1916 by Henry M. Pindell, veteran owner, editor, andpublisher who had been associated with <strong>the</strong> upbuilding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> PeoriaTranscript, <strong>the</strong> Peoria Journal, and <strong>the</strong> Peoria Herald, which have, through successivemergers, contributed to <strong>the</strong> present organization. The Transcript was founded in 185 5by William Rousenville and N. C. Nasan. The Journal, an afternoon paper, wasestablished in 1877 by J. B. Barnes and E. F. Baldwin. Mr. Pindell, who had come toPeoria in 1889, founded <strong>the</strong> Peoria Herald and purchased <strong>the</strong> Transcript, consolidating<strong>the</strong> two. In 1900 he sold <strong>the</strong>m and purchased <strong>the</strong> Journal, buying back <strong>the</strong> Herald-Transcript in 1916 to organize <strong>the</strong> present afternoon and evening papers and <strong>the</strong> combinedSunday paper. From 1916 <strong>the</strong> papers entered on <strong>the</strong>ir greater period <strong>of</strong> expansion.In 1920, <strong>the</strong> present large, and very modern <strong>newspaper</strong> plant was occupied by<strong>the</strong> Pindell papers, and since <strong>the</strong>n it has been enlarged and fur<strong>the</strong>r improved. Following<strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> Mr. Pindell in 1924, it was found that a will created a trust estate<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Journal and <strong>the</strong> Transcript, which is now known as <strong>the</strong> Peoria Journal-Transcript,Inc.Circulation, (Journal-Transcript) 39,778, (Sunday) 37,022.Advertising rare: local, 10c per line; foreign, 10c per line.Subscription rate: local, s,9.00; foreign, $10.00.PECATONICA NEWS: Established 1872 by Willi,Gilbert F. Milk condensary.Diversified farming.The News has been in <strong>the</strong> Colby family for <strong>the</strong> 5 years <strong>of</strong>its existence. It was first owned by <strong>the</strong> firm <strong>of</strong> Colby Bro<strong>the</strong>rs,Nate L. Colby succeeding <strong>the</strong> firm in 18 80. Gilbert F. Colby,<strong>the</strong> present owner, succeeded his fa<strong>the</strong>r in 1904. The News ispublished weekly, with publication on Friday.
