Whitney, founder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Star-Courier, leased <strong>the</strong>paper in 1879 to Chesley and Bro<strong>the</strong>rs, printers from Vermont;it was purchased by T. H. Chesley in 18 82. During <strong>the</strong> timehe was connected with <strong>the</strong> paper, Mr. Chesley had as his partnersaft. Jk at various times Mr. Chandler and Rev. Delano. For a time <strong>the</strong>papei was in <strong>the</strong> hands <strong>of</strong> ( harles Henderson, but was purchasedagain by Mr. Chesley who consolidated <strong>the</strong> Courier with <strong>the</strong> StarPhilip D. Adlerand also with <strong>the</strong> job plant <strong>of</strong> Ball and Walters. A stock companywas formed at this time and when Mr. Chesley sold his interest on account <strong>of</strong> ill health,Xenophon Caverno became holder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> controlling interest. Leo H. Lowe purchased<strong>the</strong> paper and was publisher until 1926. Since that date Philip D. Adler has beeneditor and publisher.
