Harsha, managing editor <strong>of</strong> National Printer Journalist, <strong>the</strong>n presented<strong>the</strong> necrology report <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>association</strong> for <strong>the</strong> <strong>press</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> state during <strong>the</strong> precedingyear. It showed a death list <strong>of</strong> 150 active and former <strong>newspaper</strong> men and women.H. L. Williamson presented his report as secretary showing 282 members in good standing.The treasurer's figures showed receipts <strong>of</strong> $2,651.02 and expenditures <strong>of</strong> $2,478.35.Of this amount $880 was for advertising which was handled through <strong>the</strong> <strong>association</strong>and appeared as a re;eipt and expenditure but which went to eight <strong>newspaper</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>state and was merely cleared through <strong>the</strong> <strong>association</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice. The larger items <strong>of</strong> expenseduring <strong>the</strong> year were for printing ($925), a <strong>press</strong> banquet in Springfield ($350), expenditures<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> State Press Council established to focus attention on recovery news($76.75); midwinter convention expenses at <strong>the</strong> Sherman hotel, Chicago ($50.94);telephone and telegraph costs (S105); badges for midwinter meeting ($16.70). Thecost for certain out-<strong>of</strong>-state speakers and certain incidentals at <strong>the</strong> annual meeting at<strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong> ispaid by <strong>the</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Journalism and such items do not show in<strong>the</strong> <strong>press</strong> <strong>association</strong> records. The School is able to bring speakers for an all state journalismconference and pay for certain convention arrangements because <strong>the</strong> general <strong>press</strong> meetingsare open to <strong>the</strong> <strong>press</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> whole state and <strong>the</strong> benefit conferred is not confinedto <strong>the</strong> members <strong>of</strong> a single organization.The Hall <strong>of</strong> Fame committee, represented by its chairman, L. M. Wood, editor<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Flora Journal and Record, made <strong>the</strong> following report <strong>of</strong> action taken at a meetingFriday noon:"The Committee announces <strong>the</strong> election <strong>of</strong> four men to <strong>the</strong> General section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Hall <strong>of</strong> Fame and one man to <strong>the</strong> State section."The four men elected to <strong>the</strong> General section are Edwin Lawrence Godkin, founder<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nation and an outstanding editor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> New York Evening Post; Maximilian339
