Warner,chairman, as follows:"Whereas, Members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong> Press Association have taken a trip to <strong>the</strong> City<strong>of</strong> Mexico, and, through <strong>the</strong> kindness and courtesy <strong>of</strong> various parties, have been enabledto make <strong>the</strong> excursion safely and expeditiously; and"Whereas, The experience has been one <strong>of</strong> great value and unalloyed enjoyment toall participating, and it is <strong>the</strong>ir unanimous desire to ex<strong>press</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir recognition <strong>of</strong> favorsshown <strong>the</strong>m, by which <strong>the</strong> trip has been made so pleasant and pr<strong>of</strong>itable; <strong>the</strong>refore, be it"Resolved, That <strong>the</strong> hearty thanks and appreciation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> excursionists is due andis hereby tendered to W. W. Kent, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Jacksonville & Sou<strong>the</strong>astern Railroad; toMessrs. Durand and McGee, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Wabash Railroad; to B. Allison, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Iron MountainRailroad; to President Richardson, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Hot Springs Railroad; to C. P. Fagin, <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> Texas & Pacific Railroad; to D. J. Price, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> International & Great Nor<strong>the</strong>rnRailroad; to B. W. Thatcher, C. B. Damon and L. F. Cowan, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mexican NationalRailroad, and to J. A. Robertson and J. D. Coplan, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Monterey & Mexican GulfRailroad, for favors shown in <strong>the</strong> matter <strong>of</strong> transportation in speed and comfort; and"Resolved, That <strong>the</strong> thanks <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Association are due and are hereby tendered toPresident Porfirio Diaz, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mexican Republic; to Governor Carlos Diaz Gutierrez<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> State <strong>of</strong> San Luis Potosi, and to Minister Ryan and Mr. E. C. Butler, Secretary<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> American legation to <strong>the</strong> Republic <strong>of</strong> Mexico for <strong>of</strong>ficial courtesies shown; and"Result ed, That <strong>the</strong> thanks <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Association are due and are hereby tendered to<strong>the</strong> Improvement Association <strong>of</strong> Laredo, Texas; to Jules A. Randel, owner <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> streetrailway and <strong>the</strong> Topo Chico Hot Springs at Monterey, Mexico; to <strong>the</strong> citizens <strong>of</strong> SanAntonio, Texas; San Luis Potosi and Monterey, Mexico; to <strong>the</strong> Press <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> City <strong>of</strong>Mexico, <strong>the</strong> Two Republics especially; to Frank Newell, superintendent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pullmancompany at Laredo, Texas, and H. J. Clark, superintendent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same company at<strong>the</strong> City <strong>of</strong> Mexico; to Tipp Layton and <strong>the</strong> employes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pullman company, for<strong>the</strong>ir many acts <strong>of</strong> kindness and courtesy to <strong>the</strong> strangers in <strong>the</strong>ir borders and under<strong>the</strong>ir care; and be it fur<strong>the</strong>r"Resolved, That <strong>the</strong> papers represented in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong> Press Association advocatea modification <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> present commercial treaty between <strong>the</strong> United States <strong>of</strong> Americaand <strong>the</strong> Republic <strong>of</strong> Mexico that will tend to reciprocity and closer trade relationsbetween <strong>the</strong> two countries, which will undoubtedly be <strong>of</strong> great mutual advantage; and"Resulted, That <strong>the</strong>se resolutions be printed in <strong>the</strong> above <strong>newspaper</strong>s, and that Mr.Owen Scott be instructed to see that copies are mailed to <strong>the</strong> persons named herein.Chas. W. Warner, G. W. Harper, M. B. Castle."On motion <strong>of</strong> Mr. Lieberknecht <strong>the</strong> resolutions were unanimously adopted as read."A special request was made that all papers containing notices <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> excursion besent to each member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> party."Mr. G. W. Cyrus, treasurer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> excursion, presented a financial statement,which was unanimously adopted."As a matter <strong>of</strong> record it is hereby made a part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se proceedings that PresidentOwen Scott was by unanimous vote appointed historian at a meeting held at Hot Springs."On motion <strong>of</strong> Mr. Shumway <strong>the</strong> thanks <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> party were unanimously tenderedto Mr. Cyrus for services as treasurer."On motion <strong>of</strong> Senator Castle a vote <strong>of</strong> thanks was tendered to President Scottfor his faithful and efficient management <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> excursion.
