To avail himself adroitly of thepassing moment is his trade. Yes, he writes in water. Acute observation, literaryskill, learning, art, science, virtue avail him not. His creation fades away suddenlylike the grass. In the morning it is green and groweth up. In the evening it iscut down, dried up and withered.'"This is a pessimistic view, it is true, but no one will more readily recognize itstruth than the experienced journalist.
