QWE Robotics Team “Getting’ Genarians Groovin” Going to STATE!After bringing home a Second Place Project Award and receiving a bid for the state competitions at the South Florida Regionals at McNicole Middle <strong>School</strong> on Saturday, February 9, our G-­‐Cubed Robotics Team are headed for the state competition. State competition will be held on March 3 in Orlando at the University of Central Florida campus. The Robotics Lego League is an international competition for elementary and middle school students. Each year the contest focuses on a different real-­‐world topic related to the sciences. This year's theme is Senior Solutions. The QWE Team invented an exercise machine for seniors to using the theory of plyometrics to strengthen their agility to prevent them from falling. The team's robot, Kommando-­‐Bot has been designed, built, and programmed to score points in 2.5-­‐minute matches on a themed playing field. Students also learn that "Gracious Professionalism", friendly competition, and mutual gain are not separate goals, and that helping one another is the foundation of teamwork. PLEASE VOTE G Cubed-­‐Getting Genarians Groovin's Invention Beginning February <strong>11</strong>, 20<strong>13</strong> Please vote for our robotics team, G Cubed-­‐Getting Genarians Groovin's invention. Our team's invention is called the Generianator and it helps seniors develop and maintain their agility, balance and hand-­‐eye coordination. It will even improve their ability to walk up and down stairs and prevent accidents due to falls. Please spread the word and vote for our team every day.http://fllinnovationaward.firstlegoleague.org/generianator PTA has been busy working with Boosterthon to prepare for our First FUN RUN at QWE on Thursday, February 14, in which all proceeds will be allocated to purchase technology for our students. <strong>Quiet</strong> <strong>Waters</strong> <strong>Elementary</strong> students, grades 3 -­‐5, (and their siblings) have been invited to participate in the 3 rd Annual Earth Day Open House at Monarch Hill Renewable Energy Park on Saturday, April 6 from 12 noon to 4 pm. Waste Management has invited four schools to participate in the free event featuring environmental displays, bus tours of Monarch Hill landfill and the landfill gas-­‐to-­‐energy plant, free hot dogs and refreshments, and other activities. The company will award PTA funds to the schools with the best participation with a 1 st place prize of $2,000, then $1,500, $1,000 and $500. Monarch Hill is located on Wiles Road just west of Powerline Road. Mark Your Calendars-­‐ more information will be coming! PTA will be hosting a CiCi’s Pizza/Yogurt UR Way Night on Thursday, March 21 from 4-­‐8 pm. A percentage of sales will be donated to the school. Hope to see you there
