我 们 的 社 区 Our CommunityComforting Kids with LoveGuangzhou: <strong>GE</strong> Volunteers Visit HuilingKindergarten in GuangzhouWith the launch of <strong>GE</strong>’s annual volunteer activity, Comfort for Kids, volunteers from different <strong>GE</strong> offices—Hong Kong, Guangzhou,Shenzhen and Taiwan—held a series of activities to spread love and care to the kids, helping them courageously connect withthe outside world. They made teddy bears and played fun games with the children.Hong Kong: Care for KidsOn March 31, <strong>GE</strong>’s Comfort 4 Kids project was held by <strong>GE</strong> volunteers. The project alsomarked the start of the 2012 Engagement Project in Hong Kong.On May 18, 20 volunteers from <strong>GE</strong> and South China Universityof Technology organized yet another gre<strong>at</strong> annual volunteeractivity: Comfort for Kids. The volunteers brought 100 plushteddy bears as gifts for the kids <strong>at</strong> Huiling Kindergarten, anddelivered comfort and love throughout the day’s activities.The kindergarten is a non-profit, non-government institutionwhich aims to provide social support for disadvantaged families ofintellectually challenged people.The children warmly welcomed the volunteers to their school.The volunteers were divided into five groups to play withchildren from five different grades. With the school teachers’help, the volunteers helped the kids cre<strong>at</strong>e sand paintings, manycompleting beautiful pictures th<strong>at</strong> showed their brilliant talents.After the sand painting, the volunteers dressed the bears in tiny<strong>GE</strong> outfits and interacted with the children, encouraging them toget more connections with the outside world to receive love andcare from all of society. The volunteers also played fun gameswith the kids. At the end of the day, the kids holding their stuffedbears had their photos taken with the <strong>GE</strong> volunteers and saidgoodbye reluctantly.The young faces of the kids were filled with promise, and theiryoung hearts hold the potential for a brighter future. Let's wishthem a joyful future!More than 40 <strong>GE</strong> volunteers made stuffed animals for children in local hospitals or other NGO-partner organiz<strong>at</strong>ions th<strong>at</strong> benefitchildren to comfort, and then visited children from HKYWCA Choi Wan Nursery School. The volunteers not only made stuffed animals,but also played games with the children, delivering a message about safety in the home. The children performed a special dance toexpress their gr<strong>at</strong>itude for the volunteers’ visit which made the volunteers laughed out loud.Plenty of new faces from various businessesparticip<strong>at</strong>ed in this event; and we hope more <strong>GE</strong> members will join these events in the future.Taiwan: Giving the Gift of Love toChildren with Developmental DelaysShenzhen: Light up Hope with LoveOn May 12, <strong>GE</strong> volunteers in Shenzhen launched the “Comfort 4 Kids” program tobring a little bit of joy to children living with cerebral palsy in Shenzhen Children’sHospital. Shenzhen Children’s Hospital is a professional rehabilit<strong>at</strong>ion center providingspecial tre<strong>at</strong>ment services for children who have a mental illness or growth problems.During their visit, the volunteers helped the children cre<strong>at</strong>e beautiful drawings and also assisted in doing various rehabilit<strong>at</strong>ionexercises with them under a doctor’s direction. The volunteers then gave teddy bears to the children who were thrilled to receive thesespecial gifts.In addition to the activities, the volunteers also had a heart-to-heart talk with the children’s parents to express their comfort. Theparents said they warmly welcomed <strong>GE</strong>’s efforts and thanked the volunteers for spending a wonderful day with their children. Allparticipants said the appreci<strong>at</strong>ion given by the parents and the happy smiles on the children’s faces were the gre<strong>at</strong>est reward for theirefforts and th<strong>at</strong> they hope all these beautiful angles get rid of pain and have a bright future full of love and good fortune.57 <strong>GE</strong> & METhis year’s <strong>GE</strong> Taiwan Comfort 4 Kids was a huge success,producing 150 <strong>GE</strong> Love Teddy Bears and raising $7,668 for theC<strong>at</strong>holic Kuang Jen Social Welfare Found<strong>at</strong>ion. The money will beused to fund schooling for children with developmental delays.The activity consisted of three sections. Firstly, in prepar<strong>at</strong>ion, <strong>GE</strong>Avi<strong>at</strong>ion Taiwan called upon colleagues from its avi<strong>at</strong>ion divisionas well as its major business partners China Airlines, EVA Air, andEvergreen Avi<strong>at</strong>ion Technologies (EGAT) to buy a <strong>GE</strong> Love TeddyBear for $33.30 each, raising $1,333 for the cause.Secondly, on April 20, the event “Love Bear T-Shirt DIY & <strong>GE</strong>Volunteer (<strong>GE</strong>V) Afternoon Tea” was held <strong>at</strong> the Appliances DemoCenter with 72 volunteers present. The volunteers stuffed 85 <strong>GE</strong>Love Teddy Bears, made do-it-yourself T-shirts and producedMother’s Day greeting cards. At the end of the day, Jason Hsu,the General Manager of <strong>GE</strong> Taiwan don<strong>at</strong>ed $333 for one of theLove Teddy Bears, and 10 other <strong>GE</strong> colleagues purchased bearsto raise another $887.Finally, on May 4, <strong>GE</strong>V Ambassador Wendy Luan from <strong>GE</strong>Healthcare took 15 <strong>GE</strong> volunteers to visit the Yu Jen ChildrenDevelopment Center established by the C<strong>at</strong>holic Kuang Jen SocialWelfare Found<strong>at</strong>ion, to make tie-dyed Teddy Bear T-shirts andhost a birthday party for children aged 2 to 6. The <strong>GE</strong> volunteersbrought out more smiles and laughter than usual in the children.The C<strong>at</strong>holic Kuang Jen Social Welfare Found<strong>at</strong>ion also sold <strong>GE</strong>Love Teddy Bears via their own fund-raising campaign and allbears have sold out.The three activities received positive feedback from <strong>GE</strong> volunteers,with one remarking th<strong>at</strong>, “As we grow our business, we are alsogrowing together with the local community. It is my gre<strong>at</strong> honorto particip<strong>at</strong>e in this event to make a little contribution to thecommunity.
