The proceedswill help pay for equipmentand uniforms. On the day of therace entrants should register atthe park entry area and after registrationwill be shuttled up to thestart of the race. Practicesbeg<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> June where the recreationteam will learn cheerlead<strong>in</strong>gbasics such as stunt<strong>in</strong>g, tumbl<strong>in</strong>g,sidel<strong>in</strong>e cheers, jumps, and rout<strong>in</strong>esand the All-Stars will get towork on their competition rout<strong>in</strong>esand learn<strong>in</strong>g new material. Therecreation team will cheer for theStansbury Youth Football teamsfor the 2011-2012 season andwill also participate <strong>in</strong> many funactivities with the football teamsdur<strong>in</strong>g the year. Both teams willbe featured <strong>in</strong> the July 4 paradeand perform at the park. We havelots of fundraisers l<strong>in</strong>ed up for thegirls to earn money to cover theirfees. For more <strong>in</strong>formation callGuy at (435) 841-1240.Stallions nip Buffs 3-2 <strong>in</strong> overtimeby Mark WatsonSPORTS EDITORDesperation turned <strong>in</strong>to exhilaration forthe Stansbury soccer team Monday afternoon<strong>in</strong> a match aga<strong>in</strong>st rival <strong>Tooele</strong>.After trail<strong>in</strong>g 2-1 most of the second halfand star<strong>in</strong>g at a loss, the Stallions scored agoal <strong>in</strong> the 73rd m<strong>in</strong>ute to tie the game 2-2and then scored with 7 m<strong>in</strong>utes rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>the second half of overtime to w<strong>in</strong> 3-2.“We weren’t quite ourselves today afterbe<strong>in</strong>g pumped up and ready to play onFriday. We played slow and sloppy <strong>in</strong> the firsthalf and had to pick it up <strong>in</strong> the second half,”said Stansbury coach Brandon Andersen.The two teams were out on the pitch andready to rumble on Friday afternoon until asnowstorm delayed the game until Monday.Stansbury senior Brett Ware was <strong>in</strong> theright spot at the right time to score a goldengoal for the Stallions <strong>in</strong> overtime. TylerThornton runn<strong>in</strong>g on the right side of thefield kicked a perfect lob pass <strong>in</strong> front of thenet for teammate Ethan Babcock. Babcockfired off a shot which hit the left post andbounced right <strong>in</strong> front of Ware who knockedit <strong>in</strong> for the w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g goal.If neither team would have scored <strong>in</strong> 20m<strong>in</strong>utes of overtime, the game would haveended <strong>in</strong> a tie.The <strong>Tooele</strong> Buffaloes looked like an entirelydifferent team s<strong>in</strong>ce they lost to Stansbury3-1 back on April 5.“I th<strong>in</strong>k my team played the best gamethey have played <strong>in</strong> two years. Our <strong>in</strong>tensitylevel was high the entire game,” said <strong>Tooele</strong>coach Rick Smith.“The players have been together longenough now that they are start<strong>in</strong>g to gel asa team; they know where the other guy isgo<strong>in</strong>g to be and where they need to makethe pass. We were also very supportive ofeach other out on the field today and communicat<strong>in</strong>g.”After a scoreless first half, the Stallionsgot a big break with a foul <strong>in</strong>side the box.Thornton connected on a close-range penaltykick to give the Stallions a 1-0 lead early<strong>in</strong> the second half.<strong>Tooele</strong> came right back about 6 m<strong>in</strong>uteslater with Daniel Higg<strong>in</strong>s mak<strong>in</strong>g some niftymoves to maneuver close to the net. The only problem forthe Buffaloes was how the visit<strong>in</strong>gTitans f<strong>in</strong>ished the game ona roll.THS BASEBALLOlympus outscored <strong>Tooele</strong> 9-2<strong>in</strong> the f<strong>in</strong>al four <strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>gs to comefrom beh<strong>in</strong>d on <strong>Tooele</strong> with a 10-7 victory at Dow James Park <strong>in</strong><strong>Tooele</strong> Thursday afternoon.“I th<strong>in</strong>k we left 13 runners onbase and had the bases loadedthree times there,” said <strong>Tooele</strong>coach Danny Med<strong>in</strong>a. “We weregett<strong>in</strong>g hits early with runners onbut then it stopped <strong>in</strong> the f<strong>in</strong>alfour <strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>gs.”Anthony Montano suppliedthe runs early for <strong>Tooele</strong> with apair of s<strong>in</strong>gles br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> fourruns. AfterCurtis reached second on awas good enough for a tie of seventh.Kjae Barbadillo fired a 95for 10th <strong>in</strong>dividually to form thescore for Stansbury.With the victory at Overlakeand only one match rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>the season, Stansbury would haveto f<strong>in</strong>ish <strong>in</strong> last place at BountifulRidge Golf Course today and haveHighland f<strong>in</strong>ish first to be deniedthe region title. If the Stallions dohold on for the region title, it willbe the first region championshipground ball and then stole third,Parker Rawl<strong>in</strong>gs was able to drive<strong>in</strong> the first run with a sacrifice flyever for girls golf at Stansbury.“I thought the girls played verywell, especially Kaylee (Gillette)who took first <strong>in</strong>dividually,” saidStansbury coach Gary Mathie.For <strong>Tooele</strong>, after Trujillo’s 85 wasAimee Averett who shot a 97 whileTanessa Cottrell rounded out thescores that counted with a 129.As far as scores that didn’tcount toward teams scores was a105 from Sharon Lyman and a 112from Emmi Gertson, both fromto center for a 1-0 Titan lead.<strong>Tooele</strong> didn’t trail for too longas s<strong>in</strong>gles by Tanner Banks,Colton Burr and Ryan Gouldloaded the bases for Montano<strong>in</strong> the second. Not wast<strong>in</strong>g hisopportunity, Montano droppeda s<strong>in</strong>gle to right-center to give<strong>Tooele</strong> a 2-1 lead.The scor<strong>in</strong>g cont<strong>in</strong>ued for<strong>Tooele</strong> <strong>in</strong> the third when Sandersand Dev<strong>in</strong> Park each s<strong>in</strong>gled tobeg<strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g. Sanders wasable to score from third on agrounder by Banks that was toohot to handle for the third <strong>Tooele</strong>run.After a walk by Gould loadedthe bases aga<strong>in</strong> for Montano,another s<strong>in</strong>gle to the left-centergap brought <strong>in</strong> two more runsfor a 5-1 lead. In two at-bats,Montano came up to the platewith the bases loaded both timesand drove <strong>in</strong> four of the five<strong>Tooele</strong> runs.The four-run <strong>Tooele</strong> lead disappearedquickly <strong>in</strong> the top of thefourth. Spencer L<strong>in</strong>dsley startedit with a s<strong>in</strong>gle and BrandonBrown was hit by a pitch.
