Awards of the All-Ireland Marketing Awards (in co-operation with the IrishMarketing Institute) and the Irish Award in the Retail Field of C-StoreAwards (in co-operation with ShelfLife).Marketing and Development of the Books SectorThrough the Clár na Leabhar Gaeilge, Foras na Gaeilge provided funding forpublishers in respect of certain marketing aspects. Among these were booklaunches, information leaflets about the books, placing advertisements innewspapers and magazines, printing catalogues, printing posters, publicitycampaigns and publicity on television.Funding was given to development plans such as the development of audiobooks and an internet site.Scríobh LeabharPress statements were issued in the different localities where Scríobh Leabharwas being held and the scheme was also publicised nationally.<strong>The</strong> Book of the YearA marketing campaign for the Book of the Year short list was organised.Stillwater was recruited to publicise the <strong>2009</strong> Book of the Year and toorganise the announcement of the shortlist and the awards presentation to thewinners. Publicity material was sent to shops throughout the island, withsupport from ÁIS.<strong>The</strong> Great Irish Books Week<strong>The</strong> Great Irish Books Week was held from 24 –31 October <strong>2009</strong> to attractpublic attention to Irish books. 30 Irish books were chosen to be part of thiscampaign, including Irish language books. Publicity material was provided tobookshops as part of this campaign.<strong>The</strong> Christmas Campaign<strong>The</strong> Christmas marketing campaign was organised to draw public attention toIrish books as Christmas presents. Various competitions were held on radiostations before Christmas, including Today FM, Newstalk and Raidio naGaeltachta. Funding was also provided for a series of radio advertisements aspart of this campaign and these advertisements were broadcast at thebeginning of December.Publicising of Work in the Field of TerminologyTalks on TerminologyTalks were given on the work and approach of terminology in Irish duringthe year in the following venues: Dublin Institute of Technology; NationalUniversity of Ireland Maynooth; National University of Ireland Galway; andthe NPLD seminar which was held in Dublin.Material on the Foras’ siteInformation texts, terminology resources and terminology for the field of anCoiste Téarmaíochta were provided on Foras na Gaeilge’s web sitewww.gaeilge.ieCatalogues and Publicity EventsA new catalogue of books and aids for Young People was published by AnGúm and distributed to schools and education conventions and at otherpublicity events.38
