Terminology Matters in the Use of IrishA text about the work of an Coiste Téarmaíochta was prepared to be postedon the focal.ie site and the wording on the home page was amended as part ofthe re-design of the site which was carried out during the year.Specialised lists: editing work was carried out on a number of specialisedlists which were compiled as part of the current contract between FIONTARand Foras na Gaeilge.Additional material was added to the database and editing was carried out onterminology data to the greatest extent possible.FIONTAR was corresponded with and meetings with them were attended inrespect of certain aspects of the current contract, e.g. the reclassification ofthe hierarchies, a link to the New Irish Corpus.General / Information BooksBelow are the dictionaries and works provided by the Gúm for the generalpublic:Cén Sórt É?: Measgra de Chineálacha Daoine by Tomás ÓFiacháin. A novel for teenagers and the generalpublic on the theme of immigration and exploitation.The English-Irish Dictionary ProjectBelow is a brief account of the year’s results in this field. 65% of Phase 2a, the phase of the English entry frames, accomplished.Six batches delivered and assessed. Tagging improvement project concluded in co-operation with TrinityCollege. Texts collected to inserted into New Irish Corpus and additional textscleared and processed to be put in. Phase 2b, the Translation phase; a Panel of Translators was recruited tobegin this phase. A written examination, an induction course and twotraining workshops were held for them towards the end of the year. The Style Guide for the Translation phase was written and refined. The translation work was begun in November and more than 1,000 entryframes had been translated by the end of the year. The project’s internet site www.focloir.ie was regularly updated andsample material of the English entry frames and of the translatedmaterial were displayed on it. There was co-operation with Lexicography MasterClass in respect of astrategy to sell the English Entry Frames database to lexicographers onthe international market.Book Matters: Clár na Leabhar GaeilgeThe Publishing SchemeUnder the Publishing Scheme, funding support is provided for Irish languagepublishers in the fields of production, development and marketing based onthe provision of a comprehensive annual plan. Funding assistance was givento fourteen publishers under the scheme during 2009 as detailed below.29
