Education Dictionary: the Education Sub-committee completed their workon the Draft Education List and it is being edited for publication as adictionary.The Sport Sub-Committee: as part of the current contract between Foras naGaeilge and FIONTAR, a Dictionary of Sport is being prepared byFIONTAR. A Sport Sub-committee was set up to discuss the more complexconcepts and monthly meetings were organised in the Committee’s office.The Proper Names Sub-Committee: The Sub-committee completed theirwork on the list of proper names from the old Testament and it will bepublished in 2010.Task Workers Panel: a panel of outside experts was set up to take onvarious tasks in the field of terminology that the office staff do not have thecapacity to do. 9 collections of terminology were edited through using thisapproach.Publications which support Language AquisitionThe following are the areas of work carried out on behalf of Foras na Gaeilgethrough An Gúm in 2009, for which material was published:– Pre-school and Primary School Resources / Publications– The Primary School Project Séideán Sí– Post-primary Publications– Dictionaries and TerminologyThe English–Irish Dictionary project and the general / information books foryoung people which the Gúm has compiled are described further on in the‘Usage’ section.Pre-school / Primary School Resources / PublicationsMaterial which would be suitable for use as pre-school and primary schooltexts and which would be in line with the instructions and learning methodsinvolved in the Revised Curriculum continued to be published. A number ofother books aimed at the basic and leisure reading needs of young childrenwere also published.
