<strong>The</strong> <strong>Language</strong> <strong>Body</strong> is a <strong>North</strong>/<strong>South</strong> Implementation <strong>Body</strong> sponsored by theDepartment of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Affairs (DAHG) and theDepartment of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL). It was established on the2nd December 1999 under the British-Irish Agreement establishingimplementation bodies, which is underpinned by the British-Irish AgreementAct 1999 and the <strong>North</strong>/<strong>South</strong> Co-operation (Implementation Bodies)(<strong>North</strong>ern Ireland) Order 1999. It reports to the <strong>North</strong>/<strong>South</strong> MinisterialCouncil (NSMC).<strong>The</strong> <strong>Language</strong> <strong>Body</strong> comprises Foras na Gaeilge and the Ulster-ScotsAgency. Foras na Gaeilge has the principal function of the promotion of theIrish language on an all-Ireland basis. <strong>The</strong> principal function of the Ulster-Scots Agency is the promotion of greater awareness and use of Ullans and ofUlster-Scots cultural issues, both within <strong>North</strong>ern Ireland and throughout theisland.Further information and Board Minutes available on the websites of the twoagencies.www.gaeilge.iewww.ulsterscotsagency.com
