production a strategic meeting took place to discuss the future of Irishlanguage educational theatre.It was from that meeting that Meitheal na mBeag grew, an umbrella groupand new organisational aid for artists and educationalists who deal with thetheatre in the Irish language. It is anticipated that Meitheal na mBeag will bedeveloped in the future. <strong>The</strong> third Summer School for teachers was held inJuly in partnership with Branar Drama. <strong>The</strong> aim of this course is to promotethe drama skills that primary school teachers have, so that the dramacurriculum may be taught through the medium of Irish. A very devoted groupcontinued their work during the year and they will be coming togetherregularly throughout the year to prepare new workshops. In November,Branar Drama came on a visit to the Graffiti <strong>The</strong>atre in Cork with theirproduction of ‘An Seanfhear Beag.’ In the meantime they will be preparing anew production which will be performed for schools in the Spring.Splódar<strong>The</strong> production and tour of the play 'Ag Claí na Muice Duibhe' (At <strong>The</strong> BlackPig’s Dyke) by Vincent Woods, sponsored by Foras na Gaeilge. <strong>The</strong> playwas performed in theatres throughout the country from Donegal to Dublin.April / May <strong>2009</strong>: a period of translation (Translator and producer:Proinnsíos Ó Duigneáin)May / June <strong>2009</strong>: Recruitment of actors and stage staff20 June – 17 July: Period of Rehearsal18 – 31 July, Toura. 18 July, Errigal Festival, Crossroads (Falcarragh) Centre,Arranmore, County Donegal. During <strong>2009</strong> thefriendship which exists between Ireland and France was also celebrated, withdiscussions, conversation, book signings, interviews and reading available forboth sides. Love and Death was their theme. Among the Irish languagewriters who took part in the festival were Dairena Ní Chinnéide and EiléanNí Chuilleanáin.Armagh Harpers AssociationAt the <strong>2009</strong> Edward Bunting Harp Festival, the life and work of the famous18 th century collector and organist, Edward Bunting, were celebrated. Harpmusic and Irish songs were promoted through the holding of workshops,lectures and concerts at this event.ArtsekaA festival was held in Belfast to celebrate Celtic and Hindu culture. <strong>The</strong>re arequite a few similarities between the festival of Samhain and the Hindufestival which is called Diwali. <strong>The</strong> festival succeeded in bringing these twocultures and the Belfast community together simultaneously. <strong>The</strong>re weremusic and shows, food stands, workshops on the Irish language and other12
