Oxford Road, Aylesbury, Bucks HP21 8PD(01296) 588588JOB DESCRIPTIONPOST:RESPONSIBLE TO:JOB PURPOSE:LECTURER IN BEAUTY THERAPY(MATERNITY COVER)HEAD OF CURRICULUMTo teach at all levels, appropriate toqualifications and experience, within therelevant Team and elsewhere within the Collegeas required.SPECIFIC DUTIES:1. Teaching1.1 Provide high quality teaching in the subject areas required, given theresources available and within the agreed and approved currenttimetable, with due recognition of the relevant syllabus and coursespecifications, including the necessary preparation of teaching notes,handouts and visual aids where required.1.2 Satisfy the administrative requirements of the College andexamining/validating bodies.1.3 Ensure that all marking, assessments and moderations are complete.1.4 Liaise with other staff as appropriate to ensure that work is fully andeffectively covered.1.5 Actively encourage and promote the process of student learning.1.6 Give team support in the teaching situation where appropriate and asrequired.1.7 Teach up to required levels on identified courses.2. Administration2.1 Ensure records of student achievements are maintained as required bythe Sector and relevant external bodies.2.2 Keep accurate and up to date registers of classes taught of learnerattendances, lateness and marks.2.3 Advise the Head of Curriculum on material and equipment needs, fromthe revenue budget, for existing and proposed courses and producerequisitions as required.


2.4 Assist with student interviews and course enrolments.2.5 Work within the team in liaising with local schools, employers andindustry to identify their training requirements and promote the workof the College.3. Curriculum Development3.1 Maintain a knowledge of new developments in the curriculum, coursesand teaching practices and keep course material. To keep abreast ofdevelopments within own areas of expertise and to keep coursematerial up to date to reflect the requirements of the College and theexamining/validating bodies.3.2 Undertake such training as may be required and requested for suchdevelopment.3.3 Be a member of relevant course teams and participate fully in theiractivities.3.4 Participate in course and curriculum monitoring, reviews andevaluations.3.5 Take an active and positive role as a team member of both Team andcross-College teams as and when directed.3.6 Act as a Course Tutor when required.3.7 Contribute to new developments as appropriate participating in thedevelopment of course materials to meet the needs of new courses orchanges to existing courses.3.8 Assist in the development of workshop facilities to meet therequirements of existing and proposed courses.3.9 Develop short courses in own specialist area as appropriate.4. Pastoral4.1 Provide active support to individual students.4.2 Encourage students to take an active part in the corporate life of theCollege.4.3 Help to ensure that College regulations and policies are upheld.4.4 Initiate action if misdemeanours or infringements of College policyoccur.5. General5.1 Attend staff meetings when reasonably requested.


5.2 Actively promote and market the College and present a positive imageof the College and its activities both within and outside the Collegeenvironment.5.3 Ensure the quality standards and performance measures applying tothe work of the section are met and facilitate continuousimprovements in all aspects of the post.5.4 Undergo any self-development and training as necessary for successin the role.5.5 Carry out any duties at all times in accordance with the College’spolicies including Equality and Diversity and Health and SafetyPolicies.5.6 Incorporate into the role the philosophy, values and behaviour statedin the College mission and Strategic plan.5.7 Be aware of and maintain within the College the College’s approach tosecurity and discipline.5.8 Undertake any other responsibilities commensurate with the grade ofthe post, which the Principal or their senior managementrepresentative may from time to time require.STAFF SUPERVISED:CONDITIONS OF SERVICENoneAylesbury College Academic ContractThis job description is a guide to the work that you will initially be required toundertake.
