LateWorks 1950–1954 the Hayward TouringExhibiti<strong>on</strong> will open at The Atkins<strong>on</strong> nextFebruary.The French painter, sculptor and designer,Henri Matisse (1869–1954) was <strong>on</strong>e of the20th century’s most influential artists. Hisvibrant works are celebrated for theirextraordinary richness and luminosity ofcolour.Matisse: Drawing with Scissors, from theSouthbank Centre, L<strong>on</strong>d<strong>on</strong> features 35lithographic prints of the famous cut–outs,produced in the last four years of his life,when the artist was c<strong>on</strong>fined to his bed. Itincludes many of his ic<strong>on</strong>ic images, such asThe Snail and the Blue Nudes.Matisse c<strong>on</strong>tinued creating highly originalworks into his eighties.
