english6.4 ConnectionsMLV6.6 Direct installation in the pipeworkWith adequate fixing of the pipe in the immediatevicinity of the pump installation point, it is permissibleto fit the pumps with motors up to 18.5 kW directly inhorizontal pipework.E6.7 Pumps with baseIf the pipe does not have adequate carrying capacity, pumps over a nominal diameter of 80 mm maybe fixed to the foundation pedestal or a wall bracketby a base. However, to prevent any transmissionof vibration and noise, we recommend placingthe pump on a vibration-absorbing foundation. For dimensions, see under 15.4 and 15.7, pag. 64…ME Drain*LV VentM Pressure gauge connection*Suction branchDischarge branch* if present6.8 PipeworkThe pump must be installed stress-free so thatpipework forces cannot impair its function. The pipework must be laid in such a manner thatno air can collect, especially in the suction pipe.6.5 Stop valveFit a stop valve before and after the pump. In thisway, the system will not have to be drained andrefilled if it is necessary to replace the pump.6.9 BypassCautionThe pump must not work against a closedstop valve in the pressure pipe. Any rise intemperature resulting from this togetherwith steam generation could damage thepump. To avoid this danger, a minimum amountmust always flow through the pump. This is ensured by providing a bypass oran outlet to a tank or similar vessel onthe pressure side of the pump.20

english7. Electrical connectionBefore removing the terminal box coverand before any dismantling of the pump,it is imperative to switch off the supplyvoltage completely. The electrical connection must be performed by aspecialist in conformity with the local regulations. The pump must be protected by fuses supplied bythe customer and should have its own externalswitch (controlling all poles). The electrical data on the type plate must conformto the data of the power supply provided.Three-phase current motors must be protected bya motor protection switch. The motors have fitted winding protection contacts(WPC 150 °C) which provide optimum motor protectionin conjunction with an external activating device.By releasing the motor fastening screws and rotatingthe motor, the terminal box can be shifted throughsteps of 90°. Connect the motor in accordance withthe circuit diagram in the terminal box.8. Frequency converter operationAll three-phase current motors can be connected toa frequency converter.CautionIncreased motor noise can be produceddepending on the type of frequencyconverter. The motor can also be exposed to harmfulvoltage peaks if an external frequencyconverter is used.Resulting faults, i.e. noise as well as harmful voltagepeaks, can be minimised by fitting an LC-filterbetween the frequency converter and motor.Only screened cables must be used; the WSK(winding protection contact) of the pump shouldbe connected to the FC if possible. The minimum permitted frequency is 25%.For further information please consult the manufacturerof the frequency converter.Fit the terminal box cover correctlybefore starting up!Connection diagramfor direct start-up9. CommissioningCautionBefore commissioning, it is essential to fillthe pump with pumping medium and tovent it.9.1 Filling upClosed or open systems with admission pressure onthe suction side of the pump:– Close the stop valve on the pressure side of thepump and open the vent screw (LV) of the pump.Important:The motor circuit mustcomply with the connectionfor direct start-up stated onthe motor plate!Y circuitCautionIn order to avoid the risk of injury topersons or damage to the motor or othercomponents by escaping medium, attentionshould be paid to the direction of openingof the vent valve. Particularly in plants withhot media, it must be ensured that thereis no risk of scalding.Δ circuitVent screw (LV)LVLVConnection diagramfor Y/Δ start-upImportant:The motor must besuitable for Y/Δ start-up,see motor plate– Open the stop valve in the intake pipe slowly untilthe medium runs out of the vent opening.– Tighten the vent screw and open the stop valvefully.Procedure for open systems in which the mediumlevel lies below the pump:NoteThe suction line and the pump must befilled up with the pumping medium andvented before the pump is put intooperation.21
