englishCautionCautionCheck whether the carrying cables andthe crane are adequately dimensioned forthe pump weight.Pumps with motors of up to 3 kW ratingare to be lifted with the help of carryingcables, as shown in the illustration. Thecentre of gravity of the plant lies above thecable fastening point and it is thereforeimportant to tie the motor to the cablesgoing up to the crane hook so that itcannot turn away sidewards.3.1 Impeller diameterThe impeller diameter can be optimized to suit thecustomer’s required heading. This means that theactual impeller diameter may differ from thestandard diameter. In the sales material, data sheets, etc. and in these instructions, the standard values arealways shown. The actual impeller diameter isshown on the pump’s type plate.4. Intended useThe pump system serves solely for delivering liquids. The pump’s operating reliability is only guaranteed ifthe pump is used in accordance with its intendedpurpose. The limits quoted in the technical data mustnot be exceeded on any account.Biral inline centrifugal pumps are mainly suitablefor the following fields of use:– Heating, ventilation, air-conditioningand refrigeration plants– Circulation, transport and pressure boostingin industrial plants.CautionPumps with motors over 4 kW rating areto be lifted with the help of carrying cables,as shown in the illustration. The centreof gravity of the plant lies above the cablefastening point and it is therefore importantto tie the motor to the cables going upto the crane hook so that it cannot turnaway sidewards. Spacer blocks (providedby customer) placed between the motorsand cables prevent the motor cooling fancovers from being damaged. With the use of unsuitable media, such as acidicor basic liquids, the plant may be damaged bycorrosion, rendered inoperative or become leaky.4.1 Pumping mediaPure, low-viscosity, non-aggressive and non-explosivemedia without solid or long-fibre components. Thepumping medium must not attack the pump materialschemically. If a liquid with a density and/or viscosity differingfrom those of water is to be pumped, the hydraulicperformance will change. Note that the motor outputwill have to be adjusted.O-rings and the shaft seals must be selected to suitthe pumping medium. When pumping treated waterwith temperatures over 80 °C and with anticorrosiveadditives, lime precipitation, etc., special shaft sealsmay be necessary (e.g. in heating and air-conditioningsystems). In heating systems, the waterquality in accordance with VDI 2035 must beadhered to.3. A low level of leakage is necessary forlubrication. Residues may be visible if an antifreeze, etc. is added.Special mechanical shaft seals may be necessarywhen more than 25% of antifreeze, etc. is added. Inthe case of long nonoperational periods, the pumpshould be periodically put into operation brieflyto avoid a high level of leakage. Water additives, especially abrasive substances, can damage themechanical shaft seal (increased leakage). There must be no vacuum at the mechanical shaftseal.17
