SECTION 5.Other IssuesAccord<strong>in</strong>g to statements made by a greyhound tra<strong>in</strong>er for Tucs<strong>on</strong> <strong>Greyhound</strong> Park Kennel #4 <strong>in</strong> 2010, this meatis delivered to <strong>in</strong>dividual kennels by the track, costs 46 cents per pound, and the cost is deducted from thekennels’ purse payments. 125This meat is be<strong>in</strong>g used despite the fact that it was prohibited by a local vote <strong>in</strong> 2008. 126Unsanitary c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s have been documented at Tucs<strong>on</strong> <strong>Greyhound</strong> ParkIn 2008 <strong>in</strong>spectors with the Ariz<strong>on</strong>a Department of <strong>Rac<strong>in</strong>g</strong> documented unsanitary c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s <strong>in</strong>side Kennel #1at Tucs<strong>on</strong> <strong>Greyhound</strong> Park. 127 The kennel, which had recently been used to house 58 greyhounds, c<strong>on</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>edur<strong>in</strong>e, blood, and fecal sta<strong>in</strong>s <strong>on</strong> floors and walls, filth-splattered walls, and a severe <strong>in</strong>festati<strong>on</strong> of fleas. 128The flea <strong>in</strong>festati<strong>on</strong> was so severe that <strong>in</strong>spectors documented “thousands of dead fleas <strong>on</strong> the floor.” 129 Inan official report, they also stated that “when we arrived to the rear of the kennel, our shoes and pants werecompletely covered <strong>in</strong> fleas up to our knees, and they were still climb<strong>in</strong>g.” 130When asked to comment about the Ariz<strong>on</strong>a Department of <strong>Rac<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>in</strong>specti<strong>on</strong> reports <strong>on</strong> Kennel #1, track CEOand General Manager Tom Taylor claimed that the kennels were so clean he could “eat off their floor.” 131 Herefused, however, to allow a reporter to see the kennel c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s and make an <strong>in</strong>dependent assessment. 132 InDecember 2010, Taylor aga<strong>in</strong> refused a media request to see the kennel compound, stat<strong>in</strong>g:“I am not go<strong>in</strong>g to let the press <strong>in</strong> because you are go<strong>in</strong>g to show it tothousands of people and we d<strong>on</strong>’t know how they are go<strong>in</strong>g to take it.” 133When he was then asked if people should be allowed to draw their own c<strong>on</strong>clusi<strong>on</strong>s, Taylor resp<strong>on</strong>ded bysay<strong>in</strong>g, “No. They w<strong>on</strong>’t.
