Moreover, every aspectof pollution generated due to plantactivities is meticulously monitored inorder to minimise it.The Company has installed state-of-theartpollution control devices, suitablefor the purpose of reducing atmosphericpollution. Real-time check on theperformance of these devices is donethrough automated online analysers,such as Opacity Meters and Ambient AirQuality Monitoring Stations (AAQMS).Controlling water pollutionAt JSPL, water pollution is controlled byadopting a range of stringent regulatorymeasures and monitoring processes. TheCompany has attained a ‘Zero Discharge’status by adopting state-of-the-arttechnology for water treatment.Through effective water conservationand reuse methods, specific waterconsumption for long products and flatproducts is maintained within a rangeof 4.2-5.3 cu.m, far below the CREPguideline of MoEF.Managing solid wastesJSPL has implemented several innovativeprojects to utilise solid waste underthe ‘Wealth from Waste’ programme.The Parsada dump yard of JSPL storessolid waste temporarily and then itis transported to the sinter plant forfurther reuse.Recently, BMP (bio-methanation plant)was installed in association with BARC,Bio-degradable waste from theresidential area is collected, segregatedand fed into this 3 TPD BMP. It is theonly plant of its kind in the wholeof Chhattisgarh. As per the Fly AshNotification Law, which came into effectfrom 1999, JSPL has attained Fly AshUtilisation Status. Steps have alreadybeen taken to achieve a level of 100%utilisation of the same. The ash isused for brick making, ash dyke rising,road and embankment construction,cement manufacturing and land filling.Moreover, a separate brick making planthas also been constructed to utilise thefly ash generated from the power plant.The plant capacity of 60,000 bricks on adaily basis has already been met.Maintaining ecological balanceJSPL consistently implements theconcept of Green Productivity and takespreventive measures in and around itsvarious facilities. The conservation ofnatural resources and pollution controlinitiatives features as a part of itsoperation module. Rainwater harvestingand tree plantations during monsoonare some of our eco-friendly measures.Eleven surface reservoirs with a waterstorage capacity of 29 lac cubic metreshave already been constructed. A totalnumber of 20 injection wells have alsobeen built to harvest rainwater andreplenish ground-water levels. Moreover,we planted and are maintaining over3 million plants with a survival rate ofover 90% during the preceding 10 years.Mass tree plantation programmes areregularly organised in consultation withthe forest department. Besides, saplingsare distributed to villagers free of cost.Initiatives have also been undertake foreco-conservation.
