®A regular programme of walking...•Here are a few useful tipsto enjoy your walk and keepyour heart healthy.If you’re not in the habit of takingregular exercise, start slowly, enjoybeing out and about and graduallybuild up to the recommended30 minutes walking a day.• Drink a glass of water before andafter your walk and, don’t forget,wear good, comfortable shoes.•Gradually warm up at the beginningand cool down towards the end.•Remember, loose clothing is morecomfortable and in winter, chooselayers rather than thick, chunky clothes.•Why not try to incorporate walkinginto your daily activities. Slí na Sláinte stands for 'path to health'. Developedby the <strong>Irish</strong> <strong>Heart</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> - the national heart andstroke charity - it's the outgoing way to make walkingfar more enjoyable. Already, it's capturing the attentionof young and old, not only in Ireland but in Europeand other parts of the world too! And no wonder,because it's a fun, healthy way for the average adultto accumulate the recommended 30 minutes of physicalactivity on most, or preferably all days of the week.You'll find Slí na Sláintewalking routes all over Ireland.They are marked by brightcolourful signposts which are notnumbered and are situated at1 km intervals.Simply follow the Km signs, setyour pace to suit your enjoymentand you'll quickly feel better andget fitter. You will also experiencea great sense of achievement.The <strong>Tullamore</strong> Town SlíThe <strong>Tullamore</strong> Slí na Sláinte is a 5.4km route whichstarts at the Kilbeggan bridge on the Grand Canal.To follow the route, continue out the Kilbegganroad past O'Connor Park and the Hospital on yourright. Just after the first Kilometre pole at the roundabout,turn left down Collins Lane. Continue alongthis road passing the next Kilometre pole, and gostraight through the Clara road roundabout. At theRahan roundabout, continue left past the 3rdKilometre post, keeping IDA Srah Business Park onyour left onto Rahan road.
