ExtractsDudević, S., Vidic, D., Maksimović, M., Parić, A.Prirodno-matematički fakultet, Sarajevo, Bosna i Hercegovinasabina_dudevic@yahoo.comThis study was undertaken in order to evaluate antimicrobial and antioxidantactivity of three Alnus species. Methanol and water extracts obtained from dryleaves and bark of the plants was screened against six Gram-negative and Grampositivebacteria as well as two fungal strains using disc diffusion method. Allextracts of three Alnus species showed high antibacterial activity against Escherichiacoli. Methanolic extract of leaves of A. viridis was the only one that showedsignificant antibacterial activity against all six bacterial species (Bacillus subtilis,Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus luteus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonasaeruginosa, Salmonella abony) including antifungal activity against Candidaalbicans and Aspergillus brasiliensis. Antioxidant activity of methanolic extractswas determined by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging test. All samples showed activity higher than thymol, which was used as a positive probe.Leaf Aroma Volatiles of Some Representatives of theCinnamomum Genus are cultivated in Hothouse Conditionsof BelarusHetka, N. 1 , Subach, V. 2 , Rogovoy, P. 31 Central Botanical Gardens of the National Academy of Sciences ofBelarus, Minsk, Belarus2 Food Research fnd Engineering Center, National Academy of Sciences ofBelarus, Belarus, 29 Kozlov St.,220037 Minsk, Belarus3 The Central Botanical Gardens of National Academy of Sciences ofBelarus, Belarus, 29 Kozlov St.,220037 Minsk, Belarushetko@list.ruAnalysis of dried leaf aroma volatiles of the Cinnamomum camfora, C.glanduliferum and C. tamala was undertaken by using of a Hewlett Packard gaschromatograph Model 5090.
