10 th <str<strong>on</strong>g>Symposium</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Flora</strong> <strong>of</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>astern <strong>Serbia</strong> <strong>and</strong> Neighbouring regi<strong>on</strong>s,Vlasina 17 to 20 June 2010<strong>Flora</strong> <strong>and</strong> vegetati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> Basarski Kamen <strong>on</strong> VidličBlagojevic, I. 1 , R<strong>and</strong>jelovic, N. 1 , Markovic, M.1 , Velickovic, V. 2 ,Cvetkovic, S. 11 Department <strong>of</strong> Biology <strong>and</strong> Ecology, Faculty <strong>of</strong> Science <strong>and</strong> Ma<strong>the</strong>matics,University <strong>of</strong> Niš, <strong>Serbia</strong>2 Faculty <strong>of</strong> Agriculture, Novi Sad, <strong>Serbia</strong>The <strong>on</strong>e <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> most significant <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> most famous mountain peak <strong>and</strong>locality at Vidlič is Basarski kamen, situated <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> east part <strong>of</strong> Balkan <strong>Serbia</strong>. Thismountain peak is famous because <strong>of</strong> its 200 m high vertical boulders, <strong>and</strong> it issituated at <strong>the</strong> altitude <strong>of</strong> 1376 m. Vidlič is extended from Pirot to <strong>the</strong> borderbetween <strong>Serbia</strong> <strong>and</strong> Bulgaria. Toge<strong>the</strong>r, Basarski kamen <strong>and</strong> Vidlič (many peoplesay that it bel<strong>on</strong>gs to massif <strong>of</strong> Stara Mountain) represent special orographic-tect<strong>on</strong>iccomplex.The geologic basis c<strong>on</strong>sists <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lime st<strong>on</strong>es from period <strong>of</strong> cretaceous, <strong>and</strong>in some parts, we can find <strong>the</strong> Jurassic sediments.There are numerous pedologic elements: red soils, brown forest soil,alluvium soils near <strong>the</strong> springs <strong>and</strong> sm<strong>on</strong>ica.The climate <strong>of</strong> Vidlič is moderate c<strong>on</strong>tinental with significant influence <strong>of</strong>Mediterranean <strong>and</strong> steppe climate.The area <strong>of</strong> Basarski kamen is part <strong>of</strong> park <strong>of</strong> nature Stara Mountain.<strong>Flora</strong> is very rich, <strong>and</strong> we found next rare plants: Ranunculus, psilostachys,Ranunculus illyricus, Pulsatilla m<strong>on</strong>tana, Dianthus petraeus, Hypericumumbellatum, Malcolmia serbica, Potentilla detomasii, Genista subcapitata, Cytisuspetrovicii, Knautia midzorensis, Pedicularis petiolaris, Pedicularis fidrichi-augusti,Campanula bulgarica, Achillea serbica, Leucan<strong>the</strong>mum serat<strong>on</strong>ina, Hieraciumpannosum, Crocus adamii, Crocus tommasinianus etc.The forest vegetati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> Basrski kamen is built by next associati<strong>on</strong>s: Fagetumm<strong>on</strong>tanum moesiacum, Querco-Carpinetum, Coryletum avellanae, Pruno-Crataegetum, Seslerietum rigidae, Geranietum macrirrhizi, Epilobietumangustifoliae, Pedicularo-Seslerietum rigidae etc.46
